"Honey, that shade really isn't right for you. It makes you look sickly." A random customer tells you as you're struggling to make it through the impossible work day. You want to tell her that you didn't ask her opinion and that she needs to get out of your face, but what do you do? YOU SMILE BACK.
You are a host at a restaurant and a customer finds it necessary to tell you how horrible the food was and how they will NEVER come back. In your mind you're thinking, "Well first off all, I DIDN'T COOK IT and secondly if you don't want to come back, DON'T! WE DON'T NEED OR WANT YOU! But you just smile back and like an idiot say "Have a nice day!"
A smelly old man with a beer gut comes up to you and says " Man if I was 10 years younger." As if that's the only deciding factor in you having anything to do with him. Instead of stating the obvious, you paint a sweet Barbie smile on your lips and pretend you're flattered.
What would happen if we just said what we're thinking? THEY DO IT ALL THE TIME.
A man thinks it's ok to comment on your body parts, you state the obvious about his for EVERYONE to her. See how he likes it.
A busy body neighbor tries to snoop around your house...KICK HER OUT!
The thing is...we can't do that because the difference between them and us is we care about hurting other peoples feelings. They think that they can do and say whatever and we just smile back to keep the peace. Personally, I'm tired of feeling like a Barbie smiling all the freakin' time. Don't you want to scream? If only we didn't have to worry about people carrying around concealed weapons and such. The world might just be a better place if we could just scream instead of pulling a weapon. Oh well.
What do you think would happen if we all smiled ( including those who are violent now)? Do you think we would all go crazy eventually? Maybe that need to express our feelings in the moment is natural and it was given to us so that we wouldn't destroy ourselves as quickly. Why can't we all just get along?
