GZ-HD40 has two settings in image control: automatic and manual; both of these settings are not perfect and both could be significantly improved. The video quality on the JVC Everio camcorder is fair but considering that it costs 1300 dollars, I personally feel that the quality of the video is cheap (could be definitely better). JVC camcorder shoots 1080i high-def video. One of the major advantages is that this camcorder has a compact size. It feels very convenient holding the JVC Everio and filming with it.
You are able to record in several HD formats with this camcorder. The GZ-HD40 is able to shoot AVCHD, MPEG-2 TS, HDV-compatible 1440 CBR. While comparing the quality of these video formats, the MPEG-2 TS seems to look best. Although, size wise, you will be able to film 10 hours of material with MPEG-2 TS, however you will be able to shoot about fifteen hours of AVCHD video.
JVC Everio GZ-HD40 HD Camcorder offers settings for users accordingly to their experience. For a beginner, it delivers auto settings as well as auto focusing and others. For more advanced users, manual settings can be established for example: manual focusing. You are also able to control brightness, color balance, sharpness and other settings in the picture. Managing these settings is quite simple through 2.8 inches LCD screen with control buttons accessible on the outside of the LCD panel. This camera, off course, has an ability to plug in a microphone or headphones, and the jacks are conveniently placed.
The battery of this camcorder is quite good. You will be able to shoot for about ninety minutes before running out of juice which is really decent.
All in all, I shouldn't say that JVC Everio GZ-HD40 HD Camcorder is a really bad one; in fact, I consider it to be quite impressive. But it is definitely too expensive and you could surely find something similar or even better spending significantly less amount of money.
