K9 Advantix for Ticks is Much Better Than Frontline

Rebecca Said
I wanted to write this review about K9 Advantix because it is really an amazing product. Last summer my dog and I were fighting a tick problem that just would not go away. This was the first summer with my dog and the ticks really liked him a lot. I was using frontline every month, checked his fur for ticks every morning and evening and gave him a tick bath every two weeks. Every time I checked him, there were more ticks and the problem seemed completely out of control.

I called Frontline's customer service department and they were of no help at all. The agent that answered the phone seemed bored and obviously wanted to be somewhere else. I told her about my problem and she told me, "Frontline only kills ticks after they have engorged themselves on your dogs blood." So I asked her, "Well then what good is Frontline?" She wasn't able to provide an answer for that. The truth is, by the time the tick is that large from sucking your dog's blood, you will have spotted it by then and pulled it off yourself. After that conversation, I realized Frontline is a useless product and threw the remainder I had away.

Somehow I made it through the summer and the tick problem subsided, but as soon as it started getting warm this year the ticks were back with a vengeance. I knew I didn't want to go through that again so I went to my veterinarian and told him the whole story. They told me they have had other complaints about Frontline, and they feel K9 Advantix is a much better product for ticks. The unique thing about K9 Advantix is that it repels the tick so they do not get on your dog in the first place. After my experience with Frontline, I didn't really have high hopes for K9 Advantix. But I decided to try it, and was totally shocked at how well it works.

I love this product because it does exactly what the company claims it will do, it keeps ticks off your dog! You just apply the individual dose to the back of your dog's neck once a month. As long as you apply it once a month, you will not have to worry about ticks at all because this product works so well. Advantix is not sold at Petco or Petsmart, but only at licensed veterinarians. So you have to make a special trip to the veterinarian to purchase it, but it is well worth it.

My 5 month old puppy was getting several ticks every day and I tried Advantix at the recommendation of the vet. I have not found a single tick on him since the first day after it was applied. He weighed 65 pounds when it was applied and 75 pounds now, 2 weeks later. I am concerned about just one "over 55 pounds" dose being sufficient as he continues to grow, but it is working now. Are you sure you are getting it all the way down to the skin? I did have trouble at one site where it ended up on the hair rather than on the skin. When I first applied it to the 4 sites as suggested in the instructions, I still had 1/2 of the dose in the bottle, so I picked 4 more sites, cutting the distance in half. Good luck, ticks are such nasty things!

We just got a shelter dog which has tons of ticks on her even though they had supposedly used k-9 advantix on her just 2 weeks prior. We took care of the initial tick problem, but now, a month later, I have found 4 ticks even though we put k-9 advantix on her 3 weeks ago. We are going to try Frontline now to see if it works better for her. I'll let you know.

Advantix didn't work for my dog either. Just had an outing and the dog came back with 100+ ticks on her. I'm a little disappointed. None were on her back though but she had a handful on her stomach area and most of them were on her legs. I'm guessing the advantix didn't make it down there. I've been giving it to her monthly for well over a year now.

perhaps i'm doing something wrong... but ticks seem to love my dog even with k9 advantix on her. on day 3 after the application, there were fleas attached to her on top of the application site. maybe it depends on area. i'm glad it's working well for you though.
