Kabob Palace is hidden behind a 7-11 on Eads Street near the Days Inn and is a little nondescript kinda place that happens to serve the most heavenly Pakistani Take-out food on Earth.

You walk in and there is a menu board up above you, and some foods already to go in the small deli-type case. There are Formica tables throughout the small place and a few folks stay to eat there, but the vast majority of the business is take-out. There's a big.. I mean huge.. mural on the back wall but other than that the place is pretty stark.

You don't come for the ambiance, you come for the food.

A friend had been making me drool with his descriptions of this stuff for weeks. I was so happy to finally get the opportunity to try them myself. He wasn't exaggerating and I can't wait to go back next time I'm in the DC area. I've eaten at Kabob Palace numerous times now and have never been disappointed.

They are mainly a Kabob joint, thus the name Kabob Palace. I went with the Number 1, which is a Boneless Chicken Kabob for $6.95. All the food has the most delicious Indian seasonings permeating the meat and come with rice, which is topped with your choice of whatever they have that day. I asked for both toppings. heh. That day was a Spinach concoction and a Chic Pea concoction (Kubali Chana). Both were just to die for! These are thick, chunky, gravy like deals. The food may not look like that much, but I could not finish a third of mine. Very filling! Oh yeah, they all also come with a thick version of parathi (bread) to roll your food in or to dip into the Kubli Chana.

Other choices are Lamb, Chapeli (Peshawari Beef), Kubideh (Ground Sirloin with house seasonings), and combos of those. A friend of mine gets the Lamb every time and has been known to drive all the way up from Richmond just to eat there. It really is that good. He says it is the best Pakistani food he's ever had, and this guy is usually not real generous with praise.

There is no smoking here. I see no reason not to bring the kids, although it really is set up mainly for take-out. Vegetarians will be quite pleased with the daily vegetable specials such as Potato Curry for $6.50 on Mondays or the Okra on Fridays for $5.50. Vegetable Somosa is available everyday for $1.25.

The guys running the place are very fast and always friendly... in a Soup Guy kinda way. OK not that bad. They mean business though so do know what you want when they get to you and you'll get nothing but smiles.

I highly recommend this place if you are anywhere within a tri-state area. Seriously. I completely enjoy my food and a place this good just cannot be missed.
