Kalahari Resort opened in May 2005 in its Sandusky, Ohio location. It touts itself as "America's largest indoor waterpark" with 173,000 square feet of water fun available. But Kalahari Resort offers even more than the large waterpark with its diverse activities.

From Memorial Day to Labor Day, weather permitting, the outdoor waterpark is available for its activity pools, hot tubs, large sunning deck, sand volleyball, shuffleboard, dry areas, and more.

There are outdoor bungalows and indoor cabanas furnished with flat screen TV, refrigerator, safe, table, bottled water, chaise lounges, and an Ipod docking station that can be rented for a day or longer. Rental prices for the bungalows and cabanas range from $99-$299 with three packages available to add to your rental.

For the indoor waterpark, visitors can surf or boogie board any day of the year on one of the two FlowRiders. At the FlowRider, a five foot wave much like that of the ocean is created by 50,000 gallons of water flowing under your feet each minute.

In addition, there are indoor waterpark attractions for every age group: tube slide rides, a lazy river ride, family raft rides, body slides, wave pool, and even a swim up bar.

Complimentary waterpark tickets are included for each registered hotel guest. But one needn't be a hotel guest to enjoy the waterpark. as all day passes are available. Passes are necessary for ages 2 years and up. Group rates are available for groups of 10 and larger; reservations must be made at least one week prior to date needed for group rates to apply.

Kalahari Resort is a great family destination, but also a meeting place for business people. There are conference rooms which can be used and a media room as well.

In keeping with the theme of the resort, furnishings and décor are in an African theme, making Kalahari Resort unique not only in its waterpark offerings, but also in its appearance.

And visitors to the Sandusky, Ohio resort will be near to another popular family destination, Cedar Point, an amusement park known the world over for its many amazing roller coasters, among other rides and attractions.

And because Sandusky, Ohio is on the coast of Lake Erie, there are many beaches in the area that can be enjoyed as well. Fantastic walleye fishing can be had in Lake Erie, with nearby Port Clinton declaring itself the Walleye Capital of the World.

I grew up in the Cedar Point/Kalahari Resort area as well...I'll date myself by saying that the Blue Streak, a wooden roller coaster, was the wild ride at Cedar Point in those days.

Since I wrote this article, I've discovered that Kalahari resort offers classes for those interested in learning to surf or boogie board on either of the two FlowRiders.
