Kamala Harris and Steve Cooley Battle for California Attorney General in 2010

Battle Lines Being Drawn to Replace Jerry Brown as California Attorney General

Darrin Atkins
It is north versus south in the 2010 election race for California Attorney General. From now until November 2, Democrat San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris will have a tough fight on her hands as she battles for those undecided voters who could easily go with Republican Steve Cooley, the current Los Angeles County District Attorney, who is seen by many as a political moderate.

The California primary election just occurred a few weeks ago but that is all in the past as the competitive fight has just begun for the next California attorney general. Democrat Kamala Harris may have high name recognition in Northern California, but Republican Steve Cooley has a huge base down in Southern California.

As Jerry Brown campaigns for California Governor against Meg Whitman, Mr. Brown's current position, that of California attorney general, is being fought for with a vengeance. The race for AG is likely to be a hard-fought, very expensive battle between Harris and Cooley. The fact that Kamala Harris is a Democrat in a heavily Democrat state may not be enough for her to win because GOP man Steve Cooley may be able to pull in enough Democrat or Independent voters to give him the victory.

San Francisco District Attorney Kamala D. Harris

San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris wants to be the next California attorney general. The fact that she could make history as the first woman to be California attorney general may be the last thing on her mind. She is an experienced, well-qualified and politically-motivated candidate from the San Francisco Bay Area and you can bet she is going to mount an aggressive contest to follow Jerry Brown as attorney general.

The San Francisco District Attorney's office is a challenging environment and plenty of information can be found out about the San Francisco D.A. at their official website. Currently, the site shows many photos of Kamala Harris in the community, in her office or in a classroom. The official political website for Kamala Harris for California Attorney General 2010 is pretty similar, though with the obvious photos of and links to major endorsers, and how to donate to or support her campaign. For specific biographical information on Ms. Harris, make sure to visit this section of her website.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley

Down south in Southern California, Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley is taking nothing for granted in the 2010 election race for California attorney general. Sure, he may have breezed through the GOP primary but he is sure to know that doing that was the easy part. Now there are four full months of campaigning against Kamala Harris and the Democratic machine.

The District Attorney of Los Angeles County website has lots of information on how the L.A. D.A. protects and serves the residents and visitors of Los Angeles County. Plus, there is an informative page on the background of Steve Cooley. Surprisingly, the political website for Steve Cooley is super simple with a big picture of him and large button links to either 'Contribute' or 'Join Team Cooley.'

Long Fight until November 2, 2010

The California general election seems like quite a long time from now for the voters but never enough time for the candidates who have to cross the state for as many votes as possible. Make sure to keep your eye on the Cooley-Harris contest which is likely to go down to the wire. For more information on California elections, make sure to check out the California Secretary of State's website.

Make sure to get out and vote during the California general election on November 2, 2010. If you have not already registered to vote, you can get more information here from the California Secretary of State's Voter Registration page.

I have a friend who was prosecuted by Steve Cooley's office on false charges. My friend's crime? He was named in a will that revoked a prior will in which a friend of Cooley's was named along with his wife as the sole beneficiaries. The friend of Cooley's was a former member of law enforcement and one of his two sons was a deputy sheriff and the other was high up in the Highway Patrol. There never has been such a prosecution in the history of legal jurisprudence. The California Court of Appeal threw out all of the felony charges. This case got zero publicity. It was a shamefully corrupt criminal prosecution to help the DA's friend obtain the inheritance that should have rightfully gone to my friend. I could never vote for this man for any office let alone for the Attorney General of California.
I am of no relation to Kamala Harris.

The rest of the country is always watching California politics!

I cover politics at work in my area, two of three district attorney candidates have ties to the case of the Oklahoma bombing, McVeigh and Nichols. Makes for interesting ads.

I concur. harris is a pathetic being. she has a lot of blood on her hands for all the killers she let out who committed more murders. the 5.4 million dollar scandal, no death penalty, no murder prosecutions until the police started getting Ramey warrant from judges to get around her, the lab scandal, the brady disclosure scandal, the announce that drug dealers had three free passes in san francisco, the highest murder rate in 30 years, the paper felony program. she is a disgrace. someone should file a motion to strike her from the ballot

As a San Franciscian and a Democrat I am posting to tell you that Kamala Harris is the worst DA in the history of the City. She refused to seek the death penalty against a man who murdered a police officer because she personally does not believe in capital punishment (even though it is the law of the land). Her office has the worst conviction record at trial in California. She let's serious repeat felony offenders return to the community with a slap on the wrist when she should fight for prision time. Unless you want California to go the way of San Francisco, DO NOT vote for Harris for AG
