COMMENTARY | You should never count senior citizens out -- especially those in Kansas. This group of seniors from Meadowlark Estates flash-mobbed the employees and customers at the local Lawerence Target.
Not only did the small group flash mob, they did it to the Glee Last Christmas Version. As you can see, this group of seniors knows what's happening in the world around them and on TV. I would venture to say if you asked your own parents or grandparents, they may have heard of a flash mob and "Glee." I also wouldn't be surprised to hear of some of them watching the show.
While their flash mob wasn't as large as the ones seen on the Fox show 'Mobbed,' it looked as if they were having fun in their flash mob at the Lawerence, Kansas, Target. KSN News shared this video with their followers on Twitter. The sad thing is some of the commenters on YouTube weren't nearly as fun loving as these elderly folks.
They should be ashamed that they felt the need to make fun of folks who wanted to get out of their independent living community to bring cheer around the holidays. For those who loved what the gang did on one of their outings, hats off to you for their support.
After all, living in an assisted living retirement center doesn't mean you're dead. It just means they need help with the little things in life most of us take for granted. Any outing and attention seniors get makes them feel like they are still needed and wanted in the outside world.
So be aware the next time you are out shopping and see a group of senior citizens hanging around in the store. You may find yourself watching Sheldon Cooper's meemaw -- how he refers to his grandmother on 'The Big Bang Theory' -- flash mobbing at a store near you.
Besides, your grandparents and parents were out dancing long before you were ever thought of becoming a part of their lives. I know of other elderly people like this group who can still give most of us younger people a run for their money.
