Kanye West at the 2009 MTV VMA Awards

Anyone watching the MTV VMA awards last night knows that Kanye West once again showed how selfish and self absorbed he is. While Taylor Swift was in the middle of giving her acceptance speech, Kanye West grabbed the microphone from her and went on a tirade about how Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.

While this is not the first time Kanye West has shown this side of himself, I fear it won't be the last time if someone doesn't stop him. When someone shows that they cannot behave the way a normal person would behave in a situation and throws temper tantrums when he doesn't get what he wants, maybe it's time to say enough is enough.

If all awards shows would ban Kanye West from participating or even being a member of the audience for a few years, he might see that his actions have consequences.

But I would go ever farther than that, because he needs to realize that the people that listen to his music and buy his CD's won't put up with his behavior as well. If people stop buying his CD's and stop listening to his music and his sales go down he might think twice about what he's doing and how he's acting.

What can the public do?

You would be surprised how much sway the regular public has on music sales and related merchandise. Stop buying Kanye West's CD's, downloads, merchandise, or anything with his name on it.

Call your local radio station and ask if they will ban all Kanye West music from their station. Call the DJ's at your local radio stations and ask them not to play anything by Kanye West.

If you are a parent of a child or teenager and they have any CD's, posters, DVD's, hats, clothes, or any other merchandise by Kanye West, find them and destroy them. Don't just take them away from your kids and sell them to someone else. That's not good enough; you should publicly destroy them and even take pictures while you are doing it to post on your blog. Talk to your kids about why you are doing this and let them know that Kanye West is not a role model to be looked up to and you don't approve of him and anything with his name on it is banned from your home.

Most people have blogs, so blog about it. Post today and everyday you can that you are boycotting Kanye West and wish others would do the same thing.

When celebrities lose fans, they lose money and it seems that is the only thing a lot of them think about. Since it seems Kanye West doesn't have the sense to think before he acts, and the people around him don't want to say anything to him for fear of getting fired and losing their own money. It's up to the public to have an intervention of sorts. It was the public that made him what he is, it was the public that made him so rich that he feels he can get away with the things he does and it's the public that can stop him if they stop listening to his music and buying his merchandise.
