Kanye West: Your Comments Were as Confusing as Your Hairstyle

Dude what were you thinking?!?! I'm asking that question on two levels...

First, the crazy remarks you made on the 2009 VMAs. That was a poor taste of commentary to say the least. You stole the spotlight from a 19-year-old woman just because you thought Beyonce's video was better? That's just tacky dude; really tacky. That's highly unprofessional, completely unnecessary, and in my opinion... wrong. I'm not saying it's wrong to believe a person should or shouldn't win, but you don't blurt out comments like that in front of the winner, on a national awards show, with millions of people watching. Hello?!?! It's as if he was the only one there and he thought no one else was listening to him. That's not even a blooper, that's a... it's a... it's just embarrassing.

Kanye, you are just one fan. You are a rapper, you've had some moments in the sun, but that doesn't give you license to just speak your mind whenever you feel like it. Whether you intentionally meant to insult her or not, you did. You should apologize for ruining Taylor Swift's moment like that. You should apologize to the millions of people for displaying such a lack of thought and respect for people. You wouldn't tell your children to be rude, so why be rude on any stage, let alone a publicized national stage.

Second, the hair. What was going on with his hair? It had more rings going on than a circus. The look fit the commentary... crazy! I wouldn't have even wanted to be publicized as his stylist with that kind of hairstyle. What is that Kanye? What is that... really? Were you looking for a chance to stand out from everyone else?

I congratulate Taylor Swift on the award for Best Female Video. I congratulate all of those who received awards, and all those who were nominated. In the entertainment industry it's an honor to be nominated. It means people are listening to you and watching your videos. I also congratulate Kanye West... on worst hairstyle, and worst comments at an awards show.

To anyone else who thinks what they have to say is so important to interrupt someone else's moment in the spotlight... you are not that great. In the entertainment industry, it's not just about what music you do or what art you produce, but what you say and how you act outside of the studio is just as important. So let's take away this lesson from Mr. West - character is needed for any profession. Character is needed at all times. Without it, you're liable to say or do just about anything.

Good article. Don't people know the rules of general courtesies and respect anymore?

Great commentary! Kanye's behavior was uncalled for.

Hadn't considered the publicity stunt angle... but I don't see how much it would have helped his or anyone else's PR any with that stunt.

At an awards show, it does seem like there should be a minimum standard of courtesy. Still wondering if this was a publicity stunt.
