Kanye West and Lady Gaga Cancel 'Fame Kills' Tour

MTV.com reports that the "Fame Kills" Tour, headlined by controversial rapper Kanye West and pop star Lady Gaga has been canceled. On the official "Fame Kills" Tour website, it states that Live Nation announced the cancellation, and full refunds will be automatically disbursed.

The cancellation of the "Fame Kills" Tour, which was scheduled to start on November 10, was anticipated by skeptics who believed that Kanye West's infamous interruption of Taylor Swift's MTV Video Music Award acceptance speech would jeopardize the possibility of the Fame Kills Tour.

The "Fame Kills" Tour had the potential to be a successful tour, with the pairing of Kanye "no such thing as bad publicity" West and the futuristic disco fashionista Lady Gaga sure to draw large crowds of adoring fans and train wreck observers alike. The "Fame Kills" Tour sold out in minutes.

Even after Kanye West made public half-baked apologies on his Twitter account and The Jay Leno Show, his public persona had taken a large hit. Even President Barack Obama called him a "jackass" in an off-the-record comment. On his interview with Jay Leno, Kanye West intimated that he would take some time off in the public relations fallout of the Video Music Awards incident.

It's likely that someone in Kanye West's public relations department suggested he take the time off to let the story die down instead of embarking on a national tour, where something else might go wrong. Kanye West's history of putting his foot in his mouth has been heavily chronicled ever since the VMA incident, most notably his post-Hurricane Katrina comment, "George Bush doesn't care about black people." Kanye West will likely take the time off and release another studio album before returning to a concert tour.

The "Fame Kills" Tour was designed to promote the pair's latest studio albums. Kanye's latest studio album, 808s & Heartbreak, features the Auto-Tuned single "Love Lockdown." Lady Gaga's hit debut album, The Fame, features hit singles like "Just Dance," "Poker Face," and "Paparazzi."

Lady Gaga will likely pack it in and re-develop her own tour. Having only one album under her belt, she does not have enough material to headline her own tour, but if she finds a partner, she can easily go on tour. Her pop style and diversity of fanbase makes it possible for her to tour with a variety of acts. Her stage presence already rivals that of the most outrageous of Madonna's onstage stunts, so she should be able to headline her own tours after one or two more studio albums.

Lady Gaga will certainly be able to headline a tour. She's the biggest name in pop music right now. This will probably end up being a good thing for her.
