Is Kayne West Losing His Christian Fan Base?

When Kanye West's career started flying, he was best know by his hit single "Jesus Walks" Kayne's track Jesus Walks which gave him a large fan base. For one, Kanye's music was hip and catchy and for two - Kayne West wasn't afraid to talk about Jesus even if it meant his album would flop. A lot of Kanye's fans really became intrigued by his "rebel" like boldness for Jesus Christ. However, fans would soon question if Kanye West would soon become much like Ditty, DMX and Tupac, singing of lifestyles that promoted anything but Christianity, while thanking God for every award.

In the lyrics of Kanye's hit, Jesus Walks Kaynew West states:

So here go my single dog radio needs this

They say you can rap about anything except for Jesus

That means guns, sex, lies, video tapes

But if I talk about God my record won't get played Huh?

It sounds as if Kanye West was getting a point across to the media that he had talent but was afraid that if he didn't adhere to popular lyrics, he could most likely kiss his career goodbye. And yest, admirably enough, Kanye West still chose to come out with Jesus Walks as a radio single promoting his College Dropout Album.

However, Kayne West ran into much controversy with his Rolling Stone Cover of himself depicted as Jesus! It was if at that moment Christians who gave him props for Jesus Walks, quickly ran in the other direction. Kanye sparked an all to familiar cliche and became known as "one of those rappers who promote God to expand their fan base" It was in 1999 that famous rappers Nas and P. Ditty recorded "Hate Me Now" and a video that would appall many Christian viewers. In the video, Nas was crucified, as well as P. Ditty, who later requested his Crucification to be edited out.

To take a more in-depth look at Kanye, one would see that he does know he is a sinner. He admits to being addicted to pornography, which is something that many who are addicted, are still in denial about. However, the question isn't whether Kanye West is saved or not, as a Christian I know it is not my call, but rather God's.

So where Christians to desperate to grab a hold of anything in Hollywood that even remotely depicted their value system? After all Kanye West's lyrics, even in Jesus Walks, had explicit lyrics! Are Christians holding Kanye West up to a label he never created? Is the media looking to bring Kanye West under a microscope for tabloid purposes? Or, is the Christians fan base of Kanye West just disappointed that yet another rapper has "souled out" to the ways of the world?

Let's look at a few more, more recent lyrics of Kanye West where he is still mentioning God. In the song, Stronger, Kanye continually repeats he can't get much "wronger" and perhaps that's his excuse for Kayne's very poor choice of words in this song. Lyrical lines like these have Christians feeling fed up.

"Bow in the presence of greatness

'Cause right now thou hast forsaken us."

"Act like you can't tell who made this,

New gospel, homey, Take Six, and take this, haters."

"But I know that God put you in front of me,

So how the hell could you front on me?

There's a thousand yous, there's only one of me."

Well, it is apparent that Kanye West did start getting familiar with the glitz of Hollywood, the money and the awards. He has also been voted as the number one most conceded artist of all time by a popular publication. He reportedly got mad at MTV for not winning enough awards, along with host of other self absorbed propaganda. Let's all be praying for Kanye West, we know God goes after his lost sheep.

Great closing sentence. I've read that the Jonas Brothers, who also started out talking in their concerts a lot about their vows to save themselves for marriage, now have their press team issuing statements like "they don't have time to concentrate on that anymore, just their music." Yes, let's pray for all young stars. The glitz gets in their eyes...or in those who are pushing them to make more money.
