For one to rate or accredit a rap album, one would have to review it in whole. Lyrics, mood/style, beats, delivery, versatility and most importantly, it's improvement, decline or balance since the last release. In the midst of writing a new album, an artist must consider all of these things. Most rap fans tend to have a long-term memory when it comes to music. The bottom line is - if you haven't improved from your last album, unless you're really that good; you'll end up pissing off a lot of your fans.

In a competition fueled partly with respect, eagerness and confidence, Both 50 Cent and Kanye West turned to the fans to find out who could sell the most records. Coincidentally, the two hip-hop superstars were on the same page as they were both underway of their third album. Both West and 50 are two of the biggest names in the rap game and have both garnered tons of success and admiration for their skills.

According to sources, 50, known primarily as the more lyrically gifted artist sold close to 700,000 in his first week's release in the United States. Critics give mixed reviews - perhaps since today's rap game has been under a lot more scrutiny recently for its content and format. When fans were questioned about 50's new album, "Curtis" many of them seemed content with its delivery. "The one thing about 50, you know what you're getting yourself into," stated a high school student I bumped into. "You always know where 50 is coming from when he puts his (bleep) out there."

We may not be able to say the same for Kanye West. West, 30, is also recognized as one of the top producers and artist in the game. "Versatility," said another person whom didn't wish to let the world know they were still in grammar school. "Kanye is just more versatile in everything he does." Couldn't blame the young man for his input; West sold damn close to 1,000,000 records upon it's release. The amount is a few hundred thousand more than 50's new album. With 13 tracks (4 less than 50's 17) one has to imagine that West's CD most be pretty hot. Versatility is the best word to label Kanye's success. He's able to speak out on various different social, economical & personal levels thru his music; topics many humble rap listeners can adapt and/or relate to.
