Kanye West Proves He Really is Heartless at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards

The "2009 MTV Video Music Awards" got off to a good start with a tribute to Michael Jackson that included a performance by his sister, Janet Jackson and some moving words from Madonna.

The first presenters were Shakira and Taylor Lautner. They presented the award for Best Female Video. The nominees included Pink, Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift. The winner was Taylor Swift and in a state of shock she made her way to the stage. She had just begun her acceptance speech when Kanye West made his way onto the stage. He took the microphone from Taylor Swift, and said "I'm really happy for you, I'm gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of the year." Kanye West then handed the microphone back to a stunned Taylor Swift and left the stage while the crowd booed him.

As I watched this, I have to say I was in shock. This was one of the rudest things that I have ever seen take place on an awards show.

Taylor Swift did not even get to finish her speech and still seemed to be in shock, and who could blame her. This should have been a wonderful moment for her, and Kanye West took it upon himself to ruin it. According to MTV, this is not his first rant. In 2007, Kanye West again ranted on the MTV Video Music Awards because his performance was inside a hotel suite instead of on the main stage.

This was not the time or place for Kanye West to share his opinions on how the votes came out. The crowd showed their support for Taylor Swift and it has been reported that some other performers including Pink were not happy with the actions of Kanye West.

In my opinion this is when he should have been escorted out of the "2009 MTV Video Music Awards". Allowing him to stay is just condoning this conduct. Now every time an award is given that he does not agree with, he will be on the stage interupting the winners.

Kanye West needs to take a vacation from his power trip and learn some manners. Whether you like the other artists or not, there should be a level of respect that is always present.

Taylor Swift will never get that moment back, but I hope she does get to enjoy the Best Female Video award that she received.

**Update**After winning Best Video of 2009, Beyonce showed what class she has by calling Taylor Swift on stage and allowing her to finish having her moment.

I missed seeing this on TV but it sounds like Kanye is getting too big for his britches! I do like some of his songs though. Will be interesting to follow his future efforts.

He is a black racist of the worst kind. ? I know as I am a black man. What would have happened if a black entertainer had won and a whit man did as West did? I can see right thought this piece of trash. I wish someone there would have stood up and whooped his ass. Racist, racist, racist. Do not employ this piece of trash. I will never watch, buy or associate myself with any show that condones this type of behavior.

Beyond rude. Of course, this means ratings and lots of buzz about the incident, so the MTV folks probably don't mind too much. However, perhaps they should uninvite him for next year and let it be known that he's not welcome.

I have never liked that guy - He thinks he is God's gift to the earth. I remember seeing him in an interview and he kept talking about how he was the best musical talent and everyone else was under him. Great article.
