Kanye West Steals Taylor Swift's Limelight at the 2009 VMA's

Note to music award shows around the world: Never allow Kanye West past security ever again.

It's one thing to disagree with how the votes turn out at awards shows - after all, we know it's rigged anyway, right? But it's a completely different deal when you grab the mic from a starlet still eligible for black X's on her back of her hands and voice your irrelevant opinion in front of the entire world. And alas, this is exactly what Kanye West did to Taylor Swift during the VMA's last night.

Not that anyone should be surprised. Does Kanye West ever behave himself at music awards? If he's not winning all the awards, he's pouting. Or in this case, touting. Evidently Kanye West felt Beyonce Knowles' video "Single Ladies" was more deserving of Best Female Music Video than Taylor Swift was. But regardless of whether or not the world cares what Kanye West thinks (or laments that he hasn't yet figured out the world revolves not around him), he still maintains his ill-earned reputation of being a music award party pooper.

So how did that whole Taylor Swift/Kanye West incident go down last night?

First, Taylor Swift is awarded her VMA.

Second, Taylor makes her way through the crowd, climbs onstage, and says something about having always dreamed about getting "one of these." (She's had such a l-o-n-g life to dream about it, too).

Third, Taylor is about to open her perfectly lip-sticked mouth again when Kanye West steals the words - and the mic - right in front of the audience.

Fourth, Kanye West tells Taylor he'll let her finish in a minute, but completely wrecks the moment by blurting out that Beyonce had "One of the best videos of all time."

Fifth, Kanye West pauses, not yet certain of whether his completely, utterly, totally shocking behavior has yet made an impression on the audience. Meanwhile, cameras pan in on a mortified Beyonce Knowles, the only individual I know who can simultaneously exhibit slight admiration and grand mortification in the same expression.

Sixth, once the audience has finished giving polite applause, Kanye repeats himself, perhaps thinking his mic might have been killed the first time around in anticipation of his foot-in-mouth disease.

Granted, Taylor Swift exhibits enough pride during concerts and award shows herself, but what celebrity doesn't? She obviously didn't deserve this kind of treatment, but from Kanye West, it's almost laughable if it weren't so shameful.

Besides, it'll turn out all right for Taylor Swift. The audience and her fellow singers all pity her, Kanye West was asked to leave Radio City Hall shortly after his blunder, and Beyonce allowed Taylor back up on stage to finish her speech after winning Video of the Year for "Single Ladies." So Kanye gets his way after all. The man just simply cannot keep his big mouth shut.

Next time, I hope he says something in front of Lady Gaga. She just might knock out one of his teeth like she did one of her backup dancers.
