Kanye West Steals Taylor Swift's Moment at the 2009 VMA's

Kanye West is talented, no doubt, but his enigmatic persona is starting to rub the shine off his star. At the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, Kanye stormed up to the stage during the middle of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for her hit song "You Belong With Me." The song's accompanying video won Swift the VMA for "Best Female Video," but Kanye had his own opinion and wasn't going to be shy about it.

During Taylor Swift's speech, Kanye West stole the limelight from the 19-year old Swift to give the world his two cents on how he felt that Beyonce should have won the award. Kanye West might be a mulit-platinum artist who has no problem affording it, but he'd better off keeping the change.

Taylor Swift had started saying that she had always dreamed about what it would be like to win a Vidoe Music Award one day and hadn't thought it would happen. As she continued her speech, though, Kanye West interrupted the young country star and began his obnoxious behavior.

"Hey Taylor, I'm really happy for you, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time," Kanye said during a time that was intended for the winner, not an egomaniac who feels entitled to do whatever he feels like.

The audience responded by booing Kanye's boorish behavior and gave Taylor Swift a much-deserved standing ovation.

This isn't to say he has no right to form his opinion. If Kanye really feels as though Beyonce's video is better than Taylor Swift's, that is fine and the man is entitled to it. However, choosing to express it in this manner was simply absurd and incredibly rude.

Kanye West is no stranger to causing controversy. During a benefit concert for relief from the Hurricane Katrina disaster, West was on air with Mike Meyers when he uttered his infamous line "George Bush doesn't care about black people." Mike Meyers looked almost as bewildered at the time as Taylor Swift looked humiliated by Kanye's stage crashing antics at the 2009 VMA's. Additionally, at the 2006 European VMA's, West also came on stage as the award for "Best Music Video" was being presented to Justice and Simian for their video "We Are Your Friends" and claimed that the award should have been his.

In spite of his massive success as a musical artist, Kanye West has a lot to learn about being a human being. The fact he managed to embarrass Taylor Swift as he did is a testament to how far he needs to develop. Hopefully he takes a cue from the collective booing of the audience and comes to realize how truly pathetic was his selfish act.

What a jerk! I still can't believe he behaved that way.
