Kanye has already made multiple apologies: on "The View," on Jay Leno and on the telephone in a private call with Taylor Swift. Now, just a week away from the 2010 VMAs, and on Beyonce's 29th birthday, Kanye West decided to remind everyone how sorry he is for the rude and uncalled for incident at last year's VMAs, in what he called "a stream of consciousness" on Twitter.
The VMAs are coming up next Sunday, and Kanye was announced as a scheduled performer on MTV News on August 12, so why did he wait until Beyonce's birthday to send out a new apology?
The stream of tweets from Saturday, September 4, actually began with an effort to blame the media for demonizing Kanye: "They wanted yall to believe I was a monster in real life so you guys wouldn't listen or buy my music anymore."
He interrupted that thought process to wish Beyonce a happy birthday with this tweet: "Happy B day to sister B ... I gotta ... gift for you. "
Kanye then continued to progress through the effects upon his life as a result of the 2009 VMA incident, saying that he had to cancel his tour with Lady Gaga (in October 2009), and shut the door on his clothing stores. He says that even a year later, people call him an a-hole in the first 2 paragraphs of whatever they write about him, and, Kanye says, if you google the word a-hole, "my face may very well pop up 2 pages into the search" (although that's not exactly who popped up when he wrote it.).
Kanye indicated that he is willing to make even more direct amends to Taylor Swift in this tweet: "I wrote a song for Taylor Swift that's so beautiful and I want her to have it. If she won't take it then I'll perform it for her."
He talks about his haters and wishes he could meet each one face to face to change their opinion of him, and says "I want to win there [sic] hearts back so I can continue to bring my take on culture to the masses with a clean opinion."
Perhaps Kanye West is putting all this out there right now, hoping the remembrances of last year's events that are bound to pop up this week will now have to be prefaced with his fresh apology. He says he's thankful to Twitter for the platform but, quite possibly, he would have been better off using his blog, where he may have been able to put together something a little more cohesive and edit out thoughts he ought to keep to himself.
The tweets come off as so much self-centered concern for what he has gone through as a result of being a "jackass" (if I can borrow an opinion from President Obama). "MTV? JAY LENO? BEYONCE? ALL FORMS OF MEDIA? TAYLOR? KANYE WEST? Who gained? Who lost?," Kanye tweeted.
You have to wonder what sort of positive reaction Kanye West thinks such a tweet will get him. Does he think it's unfair that he suffered the most from his bad behavior, or does he think he did everyone a favor?
Lady Gaga and Eminem are the heavy favorites at this year's VMAs. I doubt if they want Kanye to do them any favors.

And perhaps Kanye should go back to English 101 and learn how to spell and speak. Yes?
Wjat he did seemed so unforgivable at the time. I guess that's why he just keeps apologizing. Nice reporting.
Great report.
Great job Valerie! He should have apologized much sooner.
Great entertainment writing, Valerie. I listened to one of his songs the other day and it was "all swole." I guess the best thing you could say about him is he's good looking. But since I'm not dating him :), his lack of talent stands out more than anything. Hiz rhymes is totally banal and then he acts like he's the first "rapper" (and i use the term loosely) who discovered anti-war politics. I'm for eminem to win, or maybe Dorough.
Sometimes Kanye's behavior makes me wonder how stable he is.
Do you suppose it will ever occur to him that maybe he should just shaddup.
It's hard to believe that the son of a college-level teacher (even were his mother a bad teacher) could be so ridiculously and transparently self-serving. "MTV? JAY LENO? BEYONCE? ALL FORMS OF MEDIA? TAYLOR? KANYE WEST? Who gained? Who lost?" The answer is who cares, a year after the fact, about anyone who cares? Valerie, at least you made it a funny read.
Great and funny reporting as always, Val! I can't believe Kanye got so much heat for that one rude gesture. Other artists have done far worse things and were not as demonized. Granted, what he did was pretty crass, arrogant and immature, but Kanye himself should just let it go.
