There are others rappers who have done singing on songs such as Nelly, Lil Wayne, and Snoop Dogg just to name a few. Kanye has always been diverse in his approach with music. He is one of the few artists in hip-hop who actually do keep it real in his music. Rappers are always claiming that they've done or do things on their songs, which they've never done and will never do. Kanye West says things that other rappers wouldn't say, simply because they want to portray this gangster-thug image. So we can't hang Kanye West for coming out the way he did on 808s & Heartbreak. He has always dared to be different, which is the reason why he is one of the more popular artists in hip-hop.
This isn't the first time in hip-hop that a rapper has showed versatility by singing. As mentioned earlier Nelly has done it, and actually is known for that type of musical style. A lot more rappers are doing it nowadays and overall, the fans are responding positively to it. Kanye West has always displayed his superior production skills, and will always know how to make good music, even though his singing talent isn't the best. Mr. West knows what he's doing as he has kept his singing within a range that his voice can handle, the way he does on his single "Love Lockdown." At any rate, the people can't deny that his songs still hit, and are still very uplifting for those of us who feel pain.
A lot of his new material would not be able to be felt the same way, if he recorded it in traditional rap song format. So instead of dissing Kanye West for trying something different, we should be giving it up to him for his creativity and having the heart to step outside of the same old boring rap music. Hip-hop is maturing, and Kanye's new style is a true testament to that. In fact, if you think about rap songs that have been released in the past year a lot has changed from that of previous years as far as style is concerned. Other than the usual "dope boy wannabe" garbage that radio stations play regularly, songs like "Sensual Seduction," "I Can't Believe It," and "Got Money" are among the many different songs that shows that hip-hop music is maturing.
