Kapi'olani Medical Care Center is Hawaii's leading women and children's birth center for more than a century. Here families can feel secure in their birthing experience, while surrounded by top professionals and specialists. The state of Hawaii has designated Kapi'olani the Regional Perinatal Center due to their history of excellence in newborn care.

I would start by going to Kapi'olani's website and doing the research. There you can sign up for a free tour, pregnancy class guide and "Having a Baby" kit along with a $30.00 gift certificate. I had this kit sent when I was expecting my youngest child. I was sold after watching the informative video, describing what I may expect from my stay at Kapi'olani. I was very impressed to find the team of professionals that would be taking care of my newborn and I. Don't forget to check the list of services available, you will feel tremendous comfort knowing that no matter your personal circumstances, you will have the proper team of professionals taking caring of your needs.

My experience while at Kapi'olani was like no other birthing experience I had in the past. I have had three other births at three different locations. The quality care from Kapi'olani is unsurpassed. I found that the staff genuinely put my needs and concerns first. Sure, they have policies and regulations just as any other birthing center. These are in place to make certain that your health and safety are closely monitored. Even with their policies, I did not feel restrained like I have in the past. The nurses really worked with me to make my stay as comfortable as possible. I will admit my labor was far less agonizing than my previous experiences. These nurses must have a high level of training in the amount of skill they demonstrate.

Sometimes the unexpected situation can flare up while you are in labor or delivering your newborn. Rest your mind at ease, knowing skilled professionals are readily available to assist your needs in case a situation arises. Just as the neonatologists were present for my newborn when she went through a series of apnea episodes and was then moved to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit.

Being separated from our newborn was a very difficult time for us. Even though the situation was very trying, we found the staff very obliging while giving our newborn meticulous care. They answered all our questions confidently and in a constructive manner. Our mind began to ease once we realized the care she was receiving was the best for her at that moment. Nurses welcomed us to participate at every feeding session to maintain our bond. They were very helpful and understanding that I wanted to breastfeed my newborn. There is even a secluded pumping room on sight for breastfeeding mothers. I was very impressed with the thoughtful organization of this unit.

Our daughter was in Kapi'olani for two weeks before she was released to come home with us. They made sure not only that she was ready, but we as parents were ready too. We got infant CPR training and were sent home with an apnea monitor. Then we could observe her saturation levels, and be sure she was breathing properly. We felt very confident in taking her home at last!

Please consider Kapi'olani Medical Center for your birthing center. You will conclude this birth center is not only the best decision clinically speaking, but a luxurious experience as well. Here you and your newborn will fully be cared for, practically like royalty.
