Kara DioGuardi to Judge on New Reality Show: 'Going Platinum' on Bravo Network

Song-writer, singer and former American Idol judge, Kara DioGuardi will be judging another reality talent scouting show which will premiere on the Bravo network in 2011.

Kara will be joining the judges on Going Platinum, along with another talented singer, song-writer, Jewel, who will be hosting the television show. Going Platinum will follow 12 artists/musicians as they write music and lyrics for hip-hop, love songs and dance tracks. The winner of the competition will take home $100,000 dollars in prize money along with record deals and publishing opportunities.

Given that Kara DioGuardi is an accomplished song-writer (and excellent singer) herself, this type of show should be right up her alley. Having written hit songs for artists such as Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion,Kelly Clarkson, Faith Hill and Pink, just to name a few, Kara DioGuardi knows her way around penning lyrics to melodies.

Kara joined American Idol's 9th season, two seasons ago, expanding the judges to four, rather than the original three, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell. Kara's first season was a bit iffy in terms of how well she was doing and most definitely depended on who you asked. Personally, I thought she did a good job and brought a good balance to the sometimes whacky dynamics that occurred regularly between Simon and Paula.

During American Idol's 10th season, Paula Abdul abruptly left (why, still remains a mystery, frankly) and Ellen DeGeneres joined the show, making the season one of the best in American Idol history, if you ask me. Kara DioGuardi had certainly grown in confidence from her prior rookie season, and helped nurture one of the best crops ever of American Idol hopefuls.

After Simon Cowell left the show, both Ellen and Kara both dropped out as well. Ellen left because of other commitments and it was rumored Kara left because she was fired. Such is the way of show business, however, and now, since Kara will be judging on Going Platinum , it doesn't appear she let the proverbial grass grow under her feet.

Given that Bravo (and most networks) is saturated with reality shows, Going Platinum will be facing an uphill battle, but it sounds interesting nonetheless.
