Karaoke - What Are the Easiest Songs to Sing?

When You Have No Singing Voice but Want to Wow the Crowd...

Rodney Southern
Trying to run a Karaoke DJ business when you have virtually no singing voice is a challenge. One of the things that you learn quickly, however, are those karaoke songs that virtually anyone can sing and be popular. Not being able to sing the latest Celine Dion song is not enough reason to sit on the karaoke sidelines - not when there are incredibly easy karaoke songs that you can wow the crowd with. Here are five of the easiest karaoke songs that are sure to get the crowd up and dancing with you, regardless of your voice.

The Devil Went Down to Georgia (The Charlie Daniels Band)

This song is one that seems to stretch across virtually every single music line, and most everyone loves it. The best part is, the entire song is pretty much spoken. If you have a deep voice like mine, then it becomes much easier. Certainly "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" is among the easiest karaoke songs on the planet, and a heck of a lot of fun to play "air violin" to as well.

Funky Cold Medina (Tone Loc)

Tone Loc was one of the hottest artists on the planet at one time, and while he is not in the spotlight any longer this song certainly is. You still hear it everywhere if you listen for it and it is very catchy. It also is a huge hit when it is sung at karaoke bars across the planet. What makes this great for karaoke challenged guys like me is that no singing talent is required. It is super easy, and is even easier if you can do that Tone Loc voice. If you fire this song up during a karaoke show, they will dance....alot.

Baby Got Back (Sir Mix Alot)

Like Ton Loc above, Sir Mix Alot ruled the world at one point in time. Now he is relegated to mostly this song - but man what a song. From the opening line, you have people on the floor dancing. This is a good thing, because they generally won't notice your horrible singing if they are deep in dance. "Baby Got Back" will be popular long after I am gone, and will likely be popular for my kid's kids. It is just that catchy.

Friends in Low Places (Garth Brooks)

"Friends in Low Places" runs a close race with "Here's a Quarter, Call Someone who Cares" for the ultimate feel good break up song. What makes this song so great is that you can sing it and not sound bad regardless. This is partly because the song is so funny, and partly because everyone will be singing along and not hear you anyway.

You Shook Me All Night Long (AC/DC)

Lead singer for AC/DC Brian Johnson has such a signature voice that when you take this song on in karaoke, you are completely safe from sounding bad. Why? When a room full of people that have been drinking try to sing AC/DC and sound like Brian Johnson, they are not going to hear anything but their own screeching in their heads. You can literally go up to the microphone and mouth the words on "You Shook Me All Night Long" and nobody would notice. They would be too busy trying to sing it themselves.

These are far from the only easy karaoke songs you can sing, but they are among the best. Do not let a bad voice stop you from climbing up on stage, however. Simply adjust and pick easy karaoke songs instead. You will be shocked at how good you will sound if you try.

I just got home from my Karaoke night! Great choices! Now how about a list of songs that people shouldn't sing? Like Love Shack? I've only heard it done well once...

I always choose the songs I like. So far, a favorite was when a friend of mine sung with me (I get nervous) for a duet and we sang Picture by Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock.

"I Will Survive" is always a fave bc you can sing it wth all your girlfriends and no one sounds bad. Also "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" by the Georgia Satellites is awesomely fun and mostly pretty much spoken. We like to change the words to "I'm Having Sex with Myself".
