Karaoke: Top Ten Classic Rock Songs

Rock Out to These Classic Rock Hits

Kenzy England
You can't help but sing to some of the popular Classic Rock songs when they come on your car radio. I am at the age that Classic Rock is that music that came out in the late 60's and the 70's. Today's youth classify 80's music as a part of the Classic Rock genre. I'm currently thinking about the lyrics in Bowling For Soup's "1985" when they ask the question, "When did Motley Crue become Classic Rock?"

For the purposes of this article, there will be no Motley Crue, because to admit that they are classic would defeat my own sense of youthfulness and make them, well, old. You get the idea. Instead, I've compiled a list of true Classic Rock songs that are energetic and a blast to rock out to.

1. The Joker by Steve Miller Band: This is one of those songs that is just too cool for words and belongs on every karaoke playlist.

2. Barracuda by Heart: Released in 1977, this song has quick rhythm and is very energetic. Lately when I think about this song, I think about Shrek 3. I was just a kid when this song made its debut and I never fully appreciated it until later in life.

3. Killer Queen by Queen: Released in 1974, this song was recently redone by Panic At the Disco, though I will always adore and prefer Queen's version of this one-of-a-kind classic.

4. Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison

5. Back In The U.S.S.R. by the Beatles

6. Crocodile Rock by Elton John: The first time I heard this song was probably in 1977 and I couldn't seem to get enough of it. It was certainly different from anything else I had listened to during that time. This song was my introduction to the music of Elton John, who seemed to explode musically during the 1980's.

7. Louie Louie by Kingsmen: Think "Animal House". This song is awesome and a lot of fun to sing to.

8. Summertime Blues by Eddie Cochran

9. Gimme Some Lovin' by Spencer Davis Group

10. Bennie & the Jets by Elton John: Everyone will get in on this song. Released in 1973 on Elton's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album, this is another gotta have on the karaoke machine and is sure to draw the crowd in as they join in on the song.

    Wonderful selections.

Great selections. I'd be afraid to go up and try to sing in front of people, especially if they are armed with rotten vegetables to pelt me with. Great article though.

I have to agree. There are just some songs that don't belong on any karaoke machine, period. "My Way?" UGH! Stairway to Heaven just isn't a karaoke-type song, is it? Thanks for the comments!

And, oh, yeah, "My Way," by any guy over 65 with a bad rug or a combover!

I am a karaoke junkie and there are several songs which should be BANNED from karaoke books, like American Pie, Stairway to Heaven, Paradise on the Dashboard, e.g.
