Kashi Lemon Rosemary Chicken

A Product Review

Karen Gros
Kashi Lemon Rosemary Chicken was recently my choice for lunch on a weekday at work. I brought it along from home to eat quickly and not have to face the crowd going out to get food. After all, it just needed popping into the microwave for a few minutes and then ready to serve. Here's how my quickie lunch turned out.

First, let me tell you about the product, Kashi Lemon Rosemary Chicken. It comes in a white box and contains 10 ounces of food. That is a nice size portion for someone watching their weight like I am. I was also happy with the calorie content of only 330 calories. What really had me hooked at the store though, was the presentation of the food on the picture on the front of the box.

The picture contains a rice/barley mixture topped with strips of grilled chicken, snow pea pods, mushrooms and garnished with a slice of lemon, which I knew would not be included in the meal. It was just for looks.

The nutritional information listed on the front of the package was very helpful. It told me that Kashi Lemon Rosemary Chicken contained grilled chicken breast which is a low calorie and low fat protein. It also told me that the dinner contained 7 whole grains and sesame pilaf in a lemon rosemary and white wine sauce. Sounds good? It sure looked good!

My Thoughts on the Food and the Taste

I took my dinner out of the freezer and removed a corner section of the film as directed on the side of the box and then popped it into the microwave for 2 minutes. Then you take it out and stir the contents (which I noticed was very watery at this point) and put it back in the microwave for an additional 2.5 minutes. Take dinner out and let it cool for a few minutes and then it is time to dig in!

I found that the dinner was still very watery after it finished cooking and cooling. This didn't make the dinner impressive to me but I decided to take a chance anyway.

The appearance of the food didn't look anything like the picture on the box. The chicken breast in my dinner contained a couple of strips of chicken but most of it was ground up and looked like someone had chewed it up and then spit it back into the dinner and stirred it up. Yuck! The mushrooms were nice and firm and I had no complaints about them. The snow peas were nice and crisp, but my dinner only contained two, not numerous pods like the picture showed.

I was really disappointed in the watery sauce and 7 grain mix. It just didn't do any justice to the overall flavor of the dinner and make it totally unappealing.

The good thing about Kashi products is that they contain all natural ingredients and are indeed a healthy choice when it comes to eating.

Final Thoughts and Recommendation

Usually products from Kashi are pretty good and I enjoy them. Kashi Lemon Rosemary Chicken was not one of those better choices though. I was highly disappointed in the quality of this product and the taste. I recommend that you skip this product up in the freezer section and make another selection. Sorry Kashi!
