Kashi Tuscan Veggie Bake

Chen Salis
Last week while completing my weekly grocery shopping I purchased an item I normally would have passed up based on the price alone: Kashi frozen entrees. I went with the Tuscan Veggie Bake frozen meal. It looked appealing and I am trying to eat healthier these days. As everyone knows eating healthy comes with a price tag. It costs a lot more to eat nutritious and healthy foods than it does for normal frozen foods. In this review I will share my thoughts and opinions on Kashi Tuscan Veggie Bake frozen entrees in an effort to help other shoppers make an informed buying decision the next time they find themselves standing in the frozen food aisle of their local grocery store debating what to buy.

I have tried many Kashi products from their cereals, granola bars and cookies. I have always been pleased with the quality and taste of Kashi products. This was the major deciding factor for me. I was not thrilled to shell out $4.99 per entree but I expected this to be a fantastic meal so I did not hesitate to purchase Kashi's Tuscan Veggie Bake. This entree is Vegan, it contains 7 whole grains and a lot of veggies that I personally enjoy such as eggplant, yellow squash, sweet potato and red onions. The meal contains 7 grams of protein, 8 grams of fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Iron and Calcium. Each entree has 260 calories which is impressive when you consider the generous serving size. Unfortunately the Tuscan Veggie Bake made by Kashi is very high in sodium. However it is low in fat and contains no cholesterol.

Tuscan Veggie Bake smells really great when it is cooking in the microwave. It looks fantastic also. However the taste was just not something I really enjoyed. At the steep price of almost $5 per entree I guess I just expected to be amazed by the flavor, and I was not. I would not say this frozen meal tastes bad, but it is very bland, despite all of the delicious veggies inside. I probably would not purchase this frozen meal again for several reasons. In my opinion it is not worth the price. If these frozen meals cost about half of the retail price I would reconsider purchasing this again. Also the flavor is too bland in my opinion.

Everyone has different flavor preferences and I am sure that many people will love Kashi's Tuscan Veggie Bake frozen meals, if you are looking for a healthier frozen food you might want to check out the Kashi line of frozen meals.
