Kashi's Frozen Pizzas: Healthy and Tasty

WordVixen
If you want to add whole grains into your diet, without having to work hard, Kashi's frozen pizza is a great product to try. Like all Kashi products, the pizza's are made with 7 whole grains and are all natural.

As frozen pizza is one of my favorite convenience foods, I was overjoyed when I saw that Kashi had released their own version. I immediately purchased the Mediterranean pizza and tried it that very day.

The Mediterranean pizza is made with spinach, fire roasted red onions & sweet red peppers, four signature cheeses including Feta with roasted red pepper sauce on stone fired Kashi 7 Whole Grains & Sesame with flax seed crust. That's taken directly from the front of their box. Sound good? It is.

While I didn't expect feta cheese to be any good on a pizza, it turns out to be delicious. I can honestly see myself putting it on any pizza that we would order out from this point onward. The balance of flavors is perfect. The sweetness of the red peppers, the saltiness of the feta, and the grassiness of the spinach all mix beautifully well together with the nutty flavor of the 7 grain crust.

The Roasted Garlic Chicken Pizza absolutely blew me away. The chicken is tender, the garlic flavor well balanced with the creaminess of the sauce, and again, that wonderful, nutty 7 grain crust, plus roasted sweet peppers and four signature cheeses including asiago.

I was so pleased with the first two pizzas, that I put aside my reservations about trying the Five Cheese Tomato Pizza. I normally do not like tomato anything, aside from tomato based sauces, and don't see any point in adding chunks of tomato to a product that already has tomato in its sauce. But the others were so good, I just had to give it a try.

I can't believe it, but the Five Cheese Tomato Pizza is now my favorite. In addition to the well blended cheeses, and the surprisingly tasty tomato, and the 7 grain crust, the sauce itself is spicy with a strong flavor of basil. As with the other two pizzas, the flavor balance is absolutely perfect. I know this, because even my husband liked this flavor, and asked for it again- only with added mozzarella. I made the mistake of adding extra mozzarella to my portion of the pizza as well and found that it totally masked the delicate balance of flavors, and most especially the basil- which is a particular favorite of mine.

The Mediterranean and Five Cheese Tomato pizzas are vegetarian, while the Roasted Garlic Chicken, obviously, is not. The first two also contain 260mg of ALA- an Omega-3. Very heart healthy. On top of this, the calories for one serving (1/3 of the pizza) are between 290 and 300 calories. This is little more than half the calories of an equal sized portion of several other popular frozen pizza brands. And while Kashi pizzas are a bit more expensive than some at a little over $5 a piece, they are cheaper than similar gourmet frozen pizzas that do not have the same health conscious ingredient list.

So if you're looking for a healthy, tasty, and easy way to eat healthy, you need not look much farther than your frozen food aisle. Kashi has frozen meals as well. Bon appetite!
