Kate Gosselin to Guest Host on ABC's the View
Jon and Kate Plus 8 Star to Visit Show Sept. 14 and 15
Kate will fill in September 14 and 15 for Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who is on maternity leave. She will join hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, and Sherri Shepherd to discuss hot topics and interview celebrity guests.
One might ask, why Kate Gosselin? On her own show, she has not expressed any political views or any views at all about current events, which are staples of The View's discussions.
One word: ratings. Jon and Kate Gosselin's show is TLC's highest rated. Page views for my Jon and Kate articles eclipse those for stories on more serious topics. Jon and Kate Plus Eight has changed vastly in the past year, from being a sweet show about a young family struggling with multiples to becoming a trainwreck as the parents divorce and yet the family continues to pursue as many freebies as they can get. Yet despite it all (or perhaps because of it), the ratings continue to be huge. Booking Kate is a great move by The View producer Barbara Walters.
An example of Gosselin's popularity can be seen on The View's website. As of this writing, the link naming Kate as a guest host has 245 comments (the vast majority being negative), while the next day's announcement of indicted former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich as a guest has 5.
From Kate's perspective, landing a guest host spot on The View is a great coup. As she told Larry King recently, "I have big dreams!" She has been quoted in magazine articles saying that her goal is to eventually host her own talk show. What better practice than chatting it up on The View?
As Kate attempts to rehabilitate her image from bossy, adulterous grump to wronged, pity-deserving yet "can do" single mom, it will be interesting to see how she presents herself on The View. Many guest hosts are fairly quiet, basically there for the ratings they will pull in and for the press attention they can generate for themselves. Viewers of Jon and Kate Plus Eight know Kate is anything but quiet. Will we learn her views on healthcare reform? Ted Kennedy? Tune in and find out ...

Kate Gosselin has alienated anyone these kids have ever loved from their lives. No more Aunt Jody, no more Uncle Kevin, no more Cousins, no more Beth and her girl who was mady and Caras best friend, and no more daddy. The only one Kate has not alienated are the media and TLC. Kate does NOTHING for her children. She can SAY anything she wants, her actions SPEAK MUCH LOUDER. Kate is a GREEDY sick control freak.
The Views message board is ablaze with women who hate Kate and rightly so. Its good to see they are intelligent enough to see through Kate Gosselins manipulative, fake, exterior. She claims to wear her wedding ring because it upsets the children if she doesn't, and YET she took Jons ring!!! So she gets to hurt him publically at her childrens expense. I am appalled that the VIEW and Barbara Walters would associate themselves with this verbal abuser. We have seen the REAL Kate on her show and its clear she is acting now. Her and Chris Brown are so much alike now they could be twins. Of course Jon Gosselin despises her, why would anyone LIKE an abuser??? Except Barbara Walters I guess.
