Gosselin Kids Cleared by Child Labor Board for Filming

TLC is at it again. The daily drama and turmoil of the Gosselin family will soon return to a TV near you. All eight Gosselin children have been cleared by the Pennsylvania Labor Department to appear in Kate Plus 8, set to air on TLC beginning Sunday, June 6 and continue throughout the summer. This is great news for Kate Gosselin who had been plagued by ex-husband Jon Gosselin's refusal to allow their children to be filmed for any TLC production. TLC and Jon Gosselin eventually reached an agreement and he is now giving his consent for his kds to appear alongside their mother in the reality show. The labor board heard testimony in late April from several people connected to the TLC production of Kate Plus 8 and the Gosselin family, including Kate's estranged brother Kevin Kreider.

Kreider testified that the filming of TLC's Jon and Kate Plus 8 had "tainted" the Gosselin children. He pointed to his concerns that the children had little or no privacy during filming. He also believes that the children were manipulated by TLC producers. TLC responded calling his allegations "inaccurate" and "distorted". Jon Gosselin agreed with TLC producers that Kreider's allegations were false.

TLC producers did not get permits for the Gosselin children to film Jon and Kate Plus 8. TLC has not been charged in that instance, but they have been required to get permits for the children to film Kate Plus 8. TLC has complied, and filming on Kate Plus 8 recently began at Kate Gosselin's Wernersville, Pennsylvania home and at various special locations.

Kate Gosselin and her children, 9-year-old twins Cara and Mady and 6-year-old sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Leah, Aaden, Collin and Joel will be the stars of Kate Plus 8 which will air as a limited series of specials. Kate Plus 8 will follow the further adventures of Kate and her children as they adjust to life without Jon. It will focus on Kate's struggles as a working mom and single parent of eight children. The Kate Plus 8 premiere includes two episodes. Airing at 9 pm is Kate Plus 8: 6th Birthday Surprise which documents the 6th birthday celebration of the sextuplets. Following at 10pm is Kate Plus 8: Inside Kate's World which gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the daily life of newly single Kate Gosselin. Jon Gosselin will not appear in any Kate Plus 8 episodes.

Will viewers tune in to see the show, given the new dynamics at play? I think they will, at least initially in order to satisfy their curiosity. But whether or not a reality show about the difficulties of raising eight kids while working full-time as the star of a reality show about raising eight kids will be ultimately sour viewers on Kate Gosselin for good remains to be seen. I for one will be tuning in to the Kate Plus 8 premiere on June 6.

I think those kids need a break from the limelight.
