Kate Gosselin Opens Up to the Today Show

In a Today Show interview with Meredith Viera, Kate Gosselin finally opens up about her divorce from Jon, Jon's affair, rumors, and the future of Jon and Kate Plus 8.

The interview was filled with the familiar sound bites that we've come to expect from Kate. She was quick to dispel rumors about her, but didn't have much to say about Jon or the divorce itself. Anyone who is a regular viewer of Jon and Kate Plus 8 probably didn't learn anything new. The phrase, "His goals are not my goals," was repeated several times, and was the theme of the interview.

Wedding ring-clad Kate says she still loves the old Jon, the one who didn't run off with 22 year old Haley Glassman. Haley, the daughter of Kate's plastic surgeon, started dating Jon back in May, right around the time the divorce was made public on an episode of Jon and Kate Plus 8. In earlier episodes where Kate and Dr. Glassman's wife seemed to be good friends, it makes you wonder why Dr. Glassman and his wife didn't intervene when they learned their daughter was sleeping with their friend's husband.

Kate said Jon's affair with Glassman is just part of his new life. When asked if she was shocked upon finding out that Jon and Haley were already dating in May, Kate said, "That's his life and it doesn't affect me directly at this point. The most hurtful part is when his decisions directly affect the kids."

Despite the infidelity, Kate still wears her wedding ring for the kids. She's explained the separation to the kids on many occasions, but she's trying to ease the idea of this finality into their lives. Kate still feels like she failed her kids, but this is one way she can lessen the sting in her mind.

When asked what her part was, if any, in the errors leading up to her divorce, Kate refused to own up to any wrong doing other than, "No wife or parent is perfect." Fans of the show know that she's recently admitted to being too hard on Jon on occasion, but during the Today Show interview, she alluded to no major fault. Jon and Kate Plus 8 practically revolved around Kate and her harsh and controlling demeanor towards her husband.

Rumor control was the theme in the second half of Kate's Today Show interview. Meredith asked Kate if the separation started June 22nd when it was first publicly announced, or last October. According to a previous interview with Jon Gosselin, he said last October Kate proclaimed, "I am done." During today's interview, Kate said, "Clearly we both have different takes on what happened between us, but for the sake of the kids, the details need to remain private." Several sources published that in October, Kate wrote a contract stating Jon could date other women as long as he showed up for taping.

As for other rumors, Kate said she never looked at, or bought a condo and there was never an affair with her bodyguard. The condo rumor started when Kate and a friend were eating lunch in a restaurant below a stack of condos. As for the bodyguard, she said she's close friends with his wife, and he's been a part of the production crew of Jon and Kate Plus 8 since the beginning.

In what seemed like an afterthought brought up at the end of the second interview, Kate finally speaks about the show's affect on the children. Kate said Jon and Kate Plus 8 is the kids' favorite show to watch, and it has allowed each child to have a "substantial" college fund. She also noted that cameras on or off, the divorce would have happened anyway.

For now, Kate said Jon and Kate Plus 8 will keep rolling as it's the family's only income. "My kids brighten up people's lives."
