Kate Gosselin Today Show Interview: The Ring Stays On, for Now

Kate Gosselin Still Loves "The Jon that I Knew"

Carly Hart
Kate Gosselin appeared on the Today Show this morning and was interviewed in two separate segments her first interview in approximately two months. The first segment of Kate Gosselin's Today Show interview lasted more than 10 minutes and showed a reserved, sad Kate who ultimately teared up when Meredith Vieira asked her why she still wore her wedding ring. The second Today Show interview, lasting approximately 5 minutes, showed a feistier Kate, more like the Kate Gosselin we know from her TLC show. The Kate Gosselin Today Show interview video clips are available for viewing at MSNBC.com.

Kate Gosselin Today Show Interview: The ring stays on, for now

Interviewer Meredith Vieira pointedly asked Kate Gosselin about her wedding ring. Though the couple has been broken up for some time now, Kate still wears her wedding ring. The question caused a mini-meltdown for Kate, as she answered that she wears her wedding ring for her kids. She denied wearing her wedding ring because she was holding out hope for reconciliation with Jon, but admitted that part of her still loves "the Jon I knew". She went on to explain that for the kids' sake, she has been doing things gradually. The kids have always seen her wear her wedding ring and she was concerned that a sudden absence would alarm the kids.

Is keeping her wedding ring on out of the norm? At divorce360.com, a forum for divorcing people, the question "When did you take off your wedding?" was posed. A large majority of those who answered the question either took off their ring when their spouse asked for a divorce or moved out or when they knew for certain that their marriage was over. Some took their wedding rings off when they found out their spouse was having an affair. A handful of commenters admitted to wearing their wedding ring until all hope of reconciliation was gone. Very few admitted that they kept their wedding ring on until their divorce was final.

Kate Gosselin Today Show interview: Kate is hurt by her family's pack of lies

Part two of the Kate Gosselin Today Show was half as long, running about five minutes. The second part of the interview shows the audience a glimpse of the Kate that we know from her TLC show. Kate Gosselin was a bit more feisty and less reserved than in the first interview. There was a definite switching of gears for her and she took her own brother and sister-in-law to task for feeding into the tabloid frenzy and profiting from it, calling their appearances and interviews discussing Jon and Kate and their family "a business" that brings the duo tens of thousands of dollars in income. Kate Gosselin described her feelings of hurt that her family would make up lies about her and her family for their own financial gain, and more specifically, make their living off her children in such a way.

I know that she has appeared hard to live with on the series, but who knows how I would be with that many kids. However, I don't feel that this excuses John's behavior. He should have given her an opportunity to change some things (assuming that he didn't) before starting an affair. His "girl hopping" sure doesn't make him look like a very concerned father. Kate on the other hand seems to be making the most of it and more concerned for the children than herself. GO KATE!!!!!!

Yeah the brother and sister-in-law really sold out for cash/cheap publicity. That's the last thing the family needs right now.

Given that she is married, no reason she shouldn't wear a wedding ring.

Somebody must really be interested in these people or they wouldn't stay in the news!Good story.

Maybe it's time this media-loving woman stopped giving interviews about her troubles and doing paid appearances and stay home for her kids...and without tv cameras.

Someone tell this woman that her 15 minutes is up.

Who's telling the truth...I saw a mag cover with Jon saying he's tired of being lied about.
