Kate Winslet's Hatred of Nude Scenes Matched Only by Propensity to Perform Them

COMMENTARY | Kate Winslet may have gone a little too far in calling herself the "hypocrite of the decade," according to Press Trust of India. I can certainly think of many others who are far more deserving of that award. But Winslet does often declare that she'll stop doing so many nude scenes, though at the same time continues to do them.

As one of the best actresses of her generation, the films in which she is fully disrobed have all been a necessary part of the story; I certainly don't judge her for that. Winslet says performing bare is "awkward and bizarre," reports Access Hollywood, but it doesn't help to complain or procrastinate. She just does it. Here is a look at some of the films in which the Academy Award-winning actress has bared it all.

"Titanic"

One of Winslet's most memorable scenes was in the blockbuster film "Titanic." As female lead Rose, she had to lie on a couch wearing only the blue diamond necklace known as the "Heart of the Ocean" while Leonardo DiCaprio's Jack sketched her portrait.

The scene was one of the most beautiful in the movie, and certainly appropriate for the storyline.

"Revolutionary Road"

In another film that paired Winslet with DiCaprio, she had to act in an even more difficult situation. She was required to do a steamy sex scene in front of her husband and "Road" director Sam Mendes. People reports Winslet said she had a "total meltdown," labeling it a "profoundly weird experience."

The 2008 movie chronicled the lives of a young couple who was struggling to deal with the expectations of society in the 1950s. It was another very well-done scene, and the film was nominated for several Academy Awards.

"The Reader"

"The Reader" was a very intense and controversial film. Winslet was required to act in several sex scenes and also appeared completely nude. She received an Academy Award for Best Actress, and the film was nominated for several awards, including Best Picture.

I felt the 2008 drama was the best movie of the year, though there were some objections to the storyline; Winslet's character has an affair with a boy whose character is only 15 years old.

Of this role she commented, "Nobody is perfect. I just don't believe in perfection. But I do believe in saying, 'This is who I am and look at me not being perfect.' I'm proud of that."

Winslet's perceived imperfections are simply real beauty, in my opinion, and her confidence in doing these films shows just what a strong actress she is.
