Katherine Heigl is Grey's Anatomy's Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens

As Isobel "Izzie" Stevens, Katherine Heigl has showed why she is one of the best actresses on television. Her portrayal of Izzie Stevens, an intern at Seattle Grace, who paid her way through school by modeling, is very natural. It is her stellar performance on Grey's Anatomy which earned her a Globe nomination in December 2006 for the category of Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Television Series. Grey's Anatomy has brought Katherine Heigl more opportunities to star on the big screen.

Katherine Heigl's Personal Life

Katherine Heigl was born to a Mormon family in Washington, D.C. November 24, 1978. Katherine is the youngest of five children. Growing up, her life was much like many American families. Her parents moved the family several times before settling in New Canaan, Connecticut. Katherine's life was not free from the agony of tragedy. She lost her brother, Jason, in 1986, when he suffered a car accident. Following, the accident, Katherine's family donated her brother's organs and she has remained an advocate for organ donors to this day.

Katherine Heigl is currently engaged to singer Josh Kelley. Heigl has stated her fiancé does not watch the more racy scenes involving her roles. Prior to being engaged to Josh Kelley, Heigl dated Joey Lawrence when she was 17. Katherine was engaged previously to her Roswell co-star Jason Behr.

Katherine Heigl's Career

Katherine Heigl began her career at the age of 9, when she began modeling for various companies, including Sears. After modeling for a couple of years, Katherine branched out into acting. Her first gig was a television commercial for Cheerios. In 1992, Katherine received her big break on the big screen when she appeared in the movie That Night and by 1994; she was given the leading role in another movie, My Father.

While her acting career was gaining her exposure and giving her opportunities, Katherine continued to attend high school at New Canaan High School, where she graduated in 1996. Around the time she was completing high school, Katherine's life was dealt a devastating blow when her parents divorced and she moved to Los Angeles. During this time, Katherine Heigl appointed her mother as her manager.

Despite the success she had achieved on the big screen, Heigl made a name for herself when she took the role of Isabel Evans on the television series Roswell. During the first season of Roswell, Heigl's character was not given much screen time, but because of Heigl's stellar performances, the director decided to make her character more dominant in the next few seasons. Heigl continued to appear in movies while filming Roswell and starred in the 2001 horror flick Valentine.

Once Roswell was cancelled in 2002, Katherine made her return to the big screen. Her most recent appearance was in the 2005 movie The Ringer, starring opposite Johnny Knoxville. She also starred in a prequel called Romy and Michelle: The Beginning. This summer, she will be starring in the comedy Knocked Up.
