Katherine Heigl Invites Network Anger Over Her Emmy Withdrawal

Claiming that she didn't have the material to receive an Emmy for her role as Dr. Izzie Stevens in Grey's Anatomy, Katherine Heigl withdrew herself from the 2008 best supporting actress nomination. Now rumors are brewing that Grey's Anatomy's producer and writers are seeking revenge by introducing a plot line that may kill off her character.

This is not the first time that Katherine has spoken out against the show's writers and producer. In a 2008 Vanity Fair interview she claimed that her character's affair with a married man was a ratings ploy (she also criticized Knocked Up's writers, saying that the writing was sexist). Additionally, she briefly suspended contract talks with Grey's Anatomy's producers over a salary issue in April of 2007.

In 2005 Heigl and the rest of the Grey's Anatomy cast were thrust into the spotlight when the show, introduced as a midseason replacement, became an overnight hit. Katherine's performance in the medical drama won her both an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award for best supporting actress in 2007. Costars Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson have also been nominated for their performance on Grey's Anatomy.

Her role in the Judd Apatow comedy, Knocked Up, both a critical and financial success, made her a bona fide film star. Her box office success helped her land the #19 position in FHM's 100 Sexiest Women in the World list in 2007 in addition to receiving the honor of being AskMen.com's Most Desirable Woman of 2008. Katherine catered to the female audience with her lead role (alongside James Marseden) as a lonely bridesmaid in the romantic comedy, 27 Dresses

Acting has been a part of Katherine Hegel's life since her childhood. At the tender age of nine, she started her modeling career, posing in catalogs and television spots. In 1994 Katherine landed her first starring role in the movie, My Father the Hero, costarring Gerard Depardieu. In the following years, she continued to act, starring in some pretty shlocky movies such as Under Seige 2, Bride of Chucky, and the 2001 horror film, Valentine. She received a juicier role as Isabel Evans in the WB television drama Roswell, one of many of the channel's teen flicks.

The role of Izzie on Grey's Anatomy has helped Katherine Heigl's rise to stardom, but rumor has it that she actually wants to leave the show to focus on her film career. While she's worked hard to earn her time in the limelight Katherine Heigl may be in limbo if Grey's Anatomy's writers indeed write her out of the popular drama's script. We'll find out in the upcoming season!
