Katie Holmes' New Pixie Haircut

Is the Pixie Haircut Making a Comeback?

Heather K. Adams
The number three search this morning on Google Trends is Katie Holmes' new haircut. She went from a very pretty chin-skimming bob haircut to a very short and messy pixie cut. Bloggers all over the internet are speculating as to whether the pixie cut is making a comeback.

What is a pixie haircut?

A pixie haircut is a short, layered haircut. There are variations to the pixie, such has having long bangs, short bangs, or spiked bangs, but it almost always leaves the ears bare.

Katie Holmes' pixie haircut appears very short in the back, cropped up around the ears, yet the top is left long and messy. I had a pixie haircut when I was younger, even though I didn't know it was called a pixie then. My pixie haircut was very similar to Katie Holmes' pixie cut, but it wasn't as long on the top. The only difference I can see from the photos of Katie Holmes' pixie cut on the web is that I had shorter bangs than Holmes does, as her bangs sweep down past her eyebrows.

Who can wear a pixie haircut?

Pixie haircuts work well with all hair types. The pixie haircut is really versatile and can be styled to be messy, like Katie Holmes' new pixie haircut, or for a more professional look, the pixie can be sleek with the help of some pomade.

My hairdresser told me when I was considering a pixie haircut for my young daughter that her small, dainty facial features are the best suited for a pixie haircut. The idea of a pixie haircut is to eliminate the distraction of a hairstyle around the face so your natural beauty shines through.

Other starlets have sported pixie haircuts

Natalie Portman, Elisha Cuthbert, Michelle Williams, Halle Berry, and many others have all recently sported a pixie haircut. In fact, precisely a year ago today, on Aug. 8, 2007, it is noted that Sharon Stone had a pixie haircut. Other blogs have touted Sharon Stone as the celebrity of pixie haircuts in 2008.

Is Katie Holmes a trendsetter?

The pixie haircut has been around for decades, and with so many other celebrities sporting the pixie haircut, I don't believe Katie Holmes can take full credit for this pixie comeback. Many people have taken notice, and I suspect we will be seeing an upsurge in short haircuts for females of all ages. Guys, admire and cherish your girl's long hair while it lasts!

Katie is not the only one sporting the pixie hairstyle. another familiar face is also rihanna. and i think her hairstyle gives her more sophistication.

I had a pixie when I was 5. I cut off one of my braids so the hairdresser had no choice but to cut off the other one and give me a pixie. I was a trend setter back in the day. :-)

Yes, I had one too, as well as the Farrah Faucett feathers, the madonna bob and more. I guess celebs really do influence fashion. Now that I am old (and maybe gray sometimes) I pretty much just do what my hair does naturally, .... curl.
