Katrina: A Poem

DeeCee
It's dark tonight along the coast of our dreams
The moonlight and magnolias lull us to sleep
Escaping the fury of the storm for a while
Before waking to reality for the thousandth
time
The fear, the cries, the water for miles
carrying with it pieces of our lives
The howling wind swallowing the screams
Of mothers, of fathers, of babies
The loss is forever carved
Deep within our hearts
The mournful cries are heard in our dreams
As the moonlight and magnolias lull us to sleep.
