Katt Williams Arrested for Burglary, but Smiling in Mugshot

Katt Williams No Doubt Will Make Comedy Gold Out of Being Arrested in Georgia

Why is comedian Katt Williams smiling in his mugshot? Didn't he just get arrested for burglary? Why would anybody smile for a mugshot (read: ask Tom DeLay)? Considering that Katt Williams is a comedian, perhaps he saw the humor in the situation as Coweta County (Georgia) Sheriff's deputies put him in jail. But authorities weren't joking when they arrested Katt Williams early Monday morning in Newnan, Georgia, then subsequently booked him for burglary and criminal trespassing.

But at his arraignment Monday afternoon, Katt Williams' lawyer told the judge that his client was staying at the house as a guest. The house, which belongs to record producer Barry Hankerson, had been made available to Katt Williams while he was making a movie. In fact, according to CNN, Williams had been staying there for the past month, an assertion supported by Hankerson Monday afternoon, who is also producing the movie Williams was working on.

However, an employee of the Hankerson's horse farm claims that Katt Williams broke into the house with a crowbar. The employee, Daniel Paul Broach, called the police, Williams' attorney said, after he got into an altercation with Williams.

But there seemed to be $3500 worth of jewelry and collectible coins missing. Williams denied taking anything. His lawyer, William Briggs, said, "Mr. Williams wears more than that in jewelry on his person."

Katt Williams may have been smiling for his mugshot due to how ridiculous it all sounds. Still, after he appeared before a judge, his bail was set at $40,000.

Katt Williams became famous on the comedy circuit from his raunchy comedy and has often been compared to Richard Pryor. His latest DVD, "Katt Williams: Pimpadelic," made the Top 10 list of top selling DVDs last month, according to Neilsen-Soundscan. It was the 38-year-old comedian's fourth comedy disc.

Williams co-stars with Jay Mohr, Joe Montegna, and Robert Patrick in the upcoming comedy-thriller, "Lonely Street," due to be released soon, but is best known for his roles in "Friday After Next" and "Norbit." He is said to be working with Eddie Murphy, the star of "Norbit," on a Dreamworks project, where the two comedians play the first black marshals of the Old West. The film is tentatively titled, appropriately enough, "Marshals."

Katt Williams will no doubt get plenty of material to fill up an entire DVD from the incident. Perhaps the irony of that "Marshals" project was what had Katt Williams smiling in the mugshot.

I have lived in Coweta County Ga. all of my life. This is a very bad area for blacks and any people not white and red necked. There is a lot of hostility being leveled at black people since Barack Obama won the presidency of the United States. Here if you are black and have money, you are automatically labeled a drug dealer or a thief.

The movie he was working on is called "The Effect" , its a Comedy about President Obama with Katt Williams in it. Katt William's crew / body guards were threatening the employees of Hankersons's property, vandalizing the mansion and abusing animals there. Allegedly Hankerson owes Katt 1.5 million dollars for shooting the movie. Hankerson couldn't pay immediately so Katt and his crew were keeping the property hostage until all money was paid in full. That is why he was staying there for the past month (after the movie had been shot and done). Don't believe me? I was there, I saw it all happen.
