Pop queen Katy Perry will hopefully be channeling some of hubby Russel Brand's hilarity when she tackles the hosting duties for the venerable sketch comedy show "Saturday Night Live" on December 10th. The NBC late night comedy show announced earlier in the week that the "Kissed a Girl" singer will host the show, but will not be the musical guest that night, meaning the world will get to see just how funny Katy can be.
The 27-year-old Perry appeared on the show last year after a somewhat controversial appearance on the kid's TV juggernaut "Sesame Street" in which her segment was cut when her top was considered to be "too revealing." She later parodied that moment on "SNL" to much praise, so she should have the chops to pull off at least a few really great sketches.
In hosting the show on December 10th, Perry will join a long list of funny females who've held down the hosting honors.
Madeline Kahn - The icon of comedy and star of "Blazing Saddles" and "Young Frankenstein," Madeline hosted the show in its very first season. Imagine the thrill of seeing Kahn share screen time with another lady legend of comedy, Gilda Radner!
Emma Stone - Emma seems to be the new "it" girl, supplanting another former host, Lindsay Lohan, as Hollywood's go to actress when you need a sexy and funny young lady to bring some wit to a role. Stone has hosted the show twice, once in 2010 and once this year.
Amy Poelher & Tina Fey - Both Fey and Poelher star on hit NBC Thursday night sitcoms, and both are former "SNL" cast members. Last year each tremendously gifted comedienne got to host their former show, with Poehler getting the honor of hosting last year's season premiere, whose musical guest was none other than Katy Perry.
Madonna - The material girl was given the keys to the show in 1985, just as her career was really starting to take off. Like Perry, Madonna hosted the show but was not the musical guest. She;'s no stranger to the show, either. The "Vogue" singer also made a memorable appearance in a video for a "Wayne's World" sketch with Mike Myers and Dana Carvey in the early 1990s as well.
Betty White - Who can forget the surprisingly successful Facebook campaign that lead to icon Betty White hosting the show at age 88? White was bolstered by a cadre of former female cast members including Poelher, Fey, Maya Rudolph and Ana Gasteyer. The show was a big hit with fans, and proof that even producer Lorne Michaels is keyed in to the social network boom.
