Kayla Radomski, Gabi Rojas Early Favorites on 'So You Think You Can Dance?'

Right on the heels of the latest American Idol finale, the Fox Network ushered in the fifth season of "So You Think You Can Dance (Season 5)." And much like its song filled big brother, the first two hour episode featured a mixed bag of auditions, that ranged from the truly bizarre to the inspirational.

Having watched the past three seasons now, the following things have become painfully obvious:

• You really can't pick a winner this early on in the competition.

• Mary Murphy is always going to scream a time or two, or three or...

• John Lithgoe is not even a poor man's Simon Cowell.

• Mia Michael's choreography will always be top shelf.

• The show seems to be a stepping stone to that other dance show "Dancing with the Stars" (reference Chelsie Hightower (http://www.chelsiehightowerdance.com/blog/), Lacey, Dimitri and others)

• Most people that show up for these auditions are clueless about their talent level.

• If you are clueless, and your dance is a train wreck, you will get your 15 to 30 seconds of fame.

The latter played out in the bizarre dance of Allison Moist, a 19 year old contestant who's audition consisted of dressing up like a cat (she called it a lion), waving around two Star Wars' light sabres, and flinging herself around the stage. Poor Allison was stunned to find out that her dancing needed a vast amount of work to say the least.

Of course, in the midst of the nonsense, there were some pretty good auditions. Eighteen year-old Kayla Radomski (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awAQa903kQU) proved that her grand parents payment and support for her dance career were not in vain, when she received high praise for her contemporary dance effort.

Likewise, former circus kid, Gabi Rojas wowed the judges during her Brooklyn audition, prompting Lithgoe to call her one of the best auditions in the shows five year history. And though Lithgoe could never get his name right, Chimezie Nwosu's original and fun Hip-Hop number also caught the judge's attention. Rounding off the list of early season favorites were returning contestants Natalie Reid, and Brandon Bryant, both of whom were last minute cuts last season.

In all, this season of the show seems to be shaping out just like the past few, which is not a bad thing, so for those needing a post American Idol reality fix, season 5 of "So You Think You Can Dance" is worth checking out.
