DEEP RIVER - Michael Kayser, 35, of 85 Hemlock Drive, was arrested on Feb. 6 by state police after admitting that he had an inappropriate relationship with a 12-year-old girl.

Connecticut State Statutes 54-86e prohibits the release of the girl's identity since she is classified as a victim of a sexual assault.

According to documents at the Middlesex Superior Court, Kayser was notified earlier that day by Connecticut State Police Troop F that he was the subject of a criminal investigation being conducted by the Central District Major Crime Squad.

Kayser went to the Troop F Barracks in Westbrook to submit a seven page typed statement detailing his sexual relationship with the 12-year-old Deep River girl between early November 2007 and early February 2008.

Encounters between Kayser and the girl occurred in multiple locations in Florida, Virginia, and in Deep River.

Middlesex Superior Court records stated that these various encounters are currently under investigation and will be addressed in an arrest warrant at a future date.

Records do not show whether Kayser is related to the girl or how long the two knew each other before the encounters began.

Kayser said he purchased adult toys for the girl in the Milford V.I.P. store in March or April 2007 and in January 2008.

These toys, along with pornographic DVD's, were found in the girl's residence and were subsequently photographed and seized as evidence by police.

Police also created a sexual assault evidence collection kit and took as evidence the girl's bed comforter, blanket, and bed sheets.

In an interview with police, the girl confirmed that she had encounters with Kayser since November.

According to Kayser's statement to police, he told the girl shortly after Jan. 1 that his behavior "had to stop."

After making his statement to police, Kayser was arrested at Troop F for one count of Risk of Injury to a Child which is a Class C felony.

If Kayser is found guilty on this charge, he could be sentenced to jail between one and ten years and be fined up to $10,000.

Shortly after his arrest, Kayser's public defender, Jay McKay, reportedly heard Kayser make a comment about killing himself.

As a result, Kayser was placed on suicide watch and is being held on a $500,000 bond.

At press time, Kayser was scheduled to make a court appearance at the Middlesex Superior Court on Feb. 14 at 10 a.m.

Court records indicate that Kayser is married, has five children, has four years of post-secondary education, and was employed as a cook at the Whistle Stop Café Restaurant located in Deep River.
