First of all, these treats smell quite tasty and almost look like colored white chocolate, but are made of yogurt. Ruxpin absolutely loved these treats. I give him one a day and he happily munches away on the treat. Not that Ruxpin is very picky, though there have been things he would not eat. So, I was glad he enjoyed these treats so much.
The ingredients in these treats are as followed: Maltodextrin, Sugar, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Partially Hydrogenated Palm Oil, Isolated Soy Protein, Dried Nonfat Yogurt Powder, Lecithin, Calcium Carbonate, Salt, Mixed Tocopherols (a preservative), Vitamin A Supplement, Choline Chloride, Ferrous Sulfate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Manganous Oxide, Vitamin E Supplement, Zinc Oxide, Rosemary Extract, Citric Acid, Niacin, Riboflavin Supplement, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (source of vitamin K activity), Cholecalciferol (source of vitamin D3), Copper Sulfate, Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Calcium Iodate, Biotin, Cobalt Carbonate, Sodium Selenite, Artificial Color, Artificial Flavors.
I was quite disappointed to see sugar as the second ingredient, but these are only fed as a treat and the package recommends that treats only make up 20% of your small pet's diet. The nutritional breakdown states that the treats contain the following amount of nutrients: Crude Protein (min): 6%, Crude Fat (min): 20%, Crude Fiber (max): 2%, Moisture (max): 8%
These treats are a bit pricey, costing $5.99 for a 3.5 ounce package. However, these treats will last quite a long time when fed only as a treat. The zip top bag also ensures that the treat will stay fresh. If your small pet doesn't care for strawberry, the company also makes a blueberry flavor. Best of all, this product is made in the USA, which is very important to me.
I would have to give Kaytee Fiesta Strawberry Yogurt Chips 3 out of 5 stars. My hamster loved them, but I'm not crazy about the high amount of sugar in this treat. I also think the price is a bit high, but Petco often offers a good sale. All and all, I would recommend these treats, but would not give more than the recommended amount to your pet.
