KC Masterpiece Honey Teriyaki Marinade is Great for Chicken on a Stick

Nannette Richford

I originally purchased KC Masterpiece Honey Teriyaki Marinade for pork kabobs, simply because my family likes teriyaki flavoring. I'll be honest, I didn't bother to read the ingredients and didn't even notice it included sesame seeds. I did notice that it was inexpensive and seemed to fit our needs at the moment. My husband marinated pork cubes in the marinade and grilled pork kabobs the next day. They were a hit, so I assumed the marinade was good, but I still didn't pay much attention - you see, I don't care for teriyaki flavor and grilled pork wasn't on my mind - so I left them for the meat lovers in the group.

Chicken on a stick

A day or two later, my daughter and I decided we'd like to grill some chicken. Seeming there were perfectly good wooden skewers left over from the BBQ, we thought we'd give chicken on a stick a try. I know, what you are thinking. Yes, we do know that the proper name is chicken teriyaki, but being the down-home country folks that we are, we have always referred them "chicken on the stick," and I see no reason to pretend otherwise.

Preparation
So, I sliced up some skinless, boneless chicken breasts so they measured about '½ inch thickness and 4 to 6 inches long. I placed the chicken strips in a glass bowl and covered them with the honey teriyaki sauce and allowed them to sit for about 6 hours. I then "threaded" the chicken onto the wooden skewers to within an inch or two of the ends.

Grilling
I turned the grill on low, placed the chicken on a stick on the lowest rack and closed the cover. I wish I could tell you exactly how long I cooked them, but I really don't know. I turned them when the first side browned and then took them off when both sides were lightly browned. My best estimate is 10 to 15 minutes of cooking time.

I wasn't expecting anything special, but what I got was spectacular. Not only was the chicken sweet and tender it had the distinct flavor of sesame chicken. I don't know if it the KC Masterpiece brand that produced succulent, tender chicken or if it was just the specific flavor I purchased, but if you like chicken on the stick, give KC Masterpiece Teriyaki Marinade a try.
