Who knows? You might even like a trip to the KD Guest Ranch better than a dude ranch out west. The land there is often barren and dry. The land at the ranch in Adamsville, Ohio, has colorful green pastures, valleys with watering holes, and wood lines. You can go fishing, take a swim, or take a ride on a canoe.
The three square meals you will be served just might be some of the best you've ever had. If you want to feel at home, don't hesitate to curl up on the sofa and get engrossed in a novel. No matter where you are on the ranch you won't miss a meal. The loud clanging of the metal triangle and the shout of "come and get it" can be heard anywhere.
In the saloon you can enjoy a game of pool, just for starters. You can sit by the fireplace and listed to a cowboy singing a Western song and plucking on his guitar. You can even enjoy a game of cards.
During your stay, you will be matched with a horse you will use for four to six days. You will see a video, which demonstrates how horses are trained. You will learn how to walk and tack your horse and about the basics of horse psychology. You will have to groom and saddle your own horse. The ranch is geared for both novice and experienced riders.
As you ride, you will enjoy the beautiful surrounding scenery. You will have the chance to ride the fences and drive cattle.
After you're done, you can learn to pen calves. The secret is to separate them three at a time and put them into smaller pens. You can be involved in team penning.
If you really want to rough it and feel even more like a part of the Old West, the overnight event will allow you to cook over an open fire. You can even sleep outside under the stars, or you can stay in a primitive cabin. There is a poker table and live music.
By the swimming pool, there are a lot of other things to do besides swimming: pedal boat rides; volleyball; a water slide; horseshoes; canoes. You will not have to leave to eat. Servers will bring your meals to you.
You can eat at a picnic table underneath a shade tree. Besides the meals, you can enjoy iced tea, water, lemonade, ice cream bars, fruit, and other snacks. Depending on which meal is being served, the food includes grits, bacon, eggs, BBQ ribs, steaks, homemade desserts, and fresh vegetables. Many people who eat at the ranch ask for the recipes, and the surprising thing is the owners are happy to give them. Special diets can be accommodating.
There are still other things to do at the ranch: a hot tub is available; exercise space; a game room; and even conference rooms.
There are four cabins at the KD Guest Ranch in Adamsville, Ohio, that can handle up to 15 people each. The cabins are spacious.
There are plenty of other things to see near the ranch: the Zane Grey Museum at Zanesville; the world's largest basket at Dresden, the hometown of former astronaut and U.S. Senator John Glenn, and safari tours at Historical Coshocton and Roscoe Village.
