Before making my purchase, I checked the bag to see if Keebler Lemon Cookies contained high fructose corn syrup. I've been trying to cut this chemical from my diet and unfortunately, Keebler is known for using the sweetener in some of their products. I was happy to find that the lemon cookies didn't contain HFCS, maybe Keebler is trying to get away from using dangerous chemicals in their products.
Keebler Lemon Cookies are extremely crisp, yet dense. They remind me a lot of the texture of Pecan Sandies. The flavor of the cookie itself is buttery and delicious. The lemon frosting, on the other hand, isn't so great. I found myself wishing that the frosting wasn't even there. My boyfriend, who is a big fan of lemon cookies, felt the same way. The frosting was simply overpowering. It also didn't taste much like lemon at all. Instead it seemed like it was mostly comprised of citric acid. This is a trick that many companies use to give the taste buds the sensation of citrus, but without the cost. It never works. Citric acid is just too sharp on the tongue.
A serving of Keebler Lemon Cookies is 4 cookies. Don't get too excited though, these are small cookies. This serving contains 150 calories, 7 grams of fat, 2.5 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams of trans-fat, less than 5mg of cholesterol, 75mg of sodium, 19 grams of carbs, less than 1 gram of fiber, 9 grams of sugar, 1 gram of protein and 2% of your daily Iron.
I would have to give Keebler Lemon Cookies 3 stars. They are middle of the road for packaged cookies and certainly no where near the best I've ever had. I suggest waiting for Girl Scout Cookies and getting their lemon cookies instead.
