Keep Your Child Safe from Child Molesters

Stephanie Modkins
Keep your child safe from child molesters. Don't let him be a victim of a sick adult who wants to sexually manipulate his body. Here's how. Do:

1. Watch authority figures. Priests, police officers and teachers (at times) use their authority to hurt young children. Don't be blinded by their seemingly innocent, responsible exterior. If one is paying an exorbitant amount of attention to your child and trying to take him off alone, put on the breaks. Your child could be in danger. (Special note: also be careful of relatives with suspect pasts.)

2. Teach your child about sex. Keep your child safe from child molesters by teaching him about sex. You don't have to be extremely graphic, but you do have to be honest. Tell him from the time he can talk and walk that no one should touch his special parts or put anything in them. Then, make yourself clear that he needs to tell you if someone does.

3. Monitor and limit sleepovers. Have a friend who likes all of the kids in the neighborhood to sleepover? Monitor these events. Ask to come over and stay the night too. Then, keep the number of times your child goes down to once a month. Your interest will prevent anyone who wants to harm your offspring from following through with his desire.

4. Know neighborhood predators. Don't rely on the police to keep your child safe from child molesters. Most law enforcement departments are overburdened with work and can't stay on top of all known criminals. You can find out for your self who's a predator in your area by visiting Familywatchdog.us. At this site, you can plug in your state and get a number. What you find out can make the difference between you letting your child walk to the store alone or you going with him.

5. Control your child's Internet use. The way most predators are getting to children these days is through the Internet. They pose as peers their age or as "friendly" older adults. Savvy ones go through Facebook, Twitter and MySpace in order to attract and take advantage of innocent, unsuspecting youth. Be smart. Control your child's Internet use and block and report people who appear suspicious. Also, tell your young one never to meet anyone in public because of a request through the Internet. Explain that this kind of behavior could cost his life.

These five tips will help you keep your child safe from child molesters. Use them and help your son or daughter not become a statistic.
