Keep Your Child's Education On Track When They're Home Sick #1: Contact the Teacher
If your child is going to miss more then a couple of days of school, contact your child's teacher. You can leave a message for the teacher to call you about your student at the school office. Some teachers give parents their school email address so if you have that, use it. Tell the teacher that your child is sick, give an estimated time of being out of school and then ask what you can do at home to help your child keep up with school work. Odds are your teacher will give you some work and pointers. They want your teacher to be on track as much as you do.
Keep Your Child's Education On Track When They're Home Sick #2: Arrange to Pick Up Their Missed Work
Your child will have an easier time keeping on track with their education if they have their homework and assignments that their class is doing. You can either ask the teacher if you can pick it up after school or if you have another student at the school, leave a note to your sick child's teacher asking if they can send the child's school work to the sibling in class so it can be brought to your sick child.

Since your child is sick, they need lots of rest. Allow your child to do their class work for a certain amount of time (such as 30 minutes) and then give them a break. Their body needs to heal so give their mind a rest. When they are done resting, they may feel more refreshed and can their homework the attention it needs.
Keep Your Child's Education On Track When They're Home Sick #4: Don't Stress Them Out
All parents worry but don't worry to the extent that it will stress your child out. Don't get them upset if they have a lot of class work to do. They'll get it done in due time. Rushing them can only make them feel worse.
Keep Your Child's Education On Track When They're Home Sick #5: Give Tests at Home
Your teacher may or may not give you tests to do at home. If they can't make up a test, look over your child's school work and make up your own test to give them. It doesn't need to be a long and laborious one. Just do small sample tests in all their subjects so their mind will stay fresh while they are at home.
Keep Your Child's Education On Track When They're Home Sick #6: Check their Progress
Check your child's progress as they do their homework. If you don't check it over, they may be getting stuff wrong. How can they learn if they are first taught? If you don't know how to do something, ask the teacher or look up how to do it online. The internet is a wonderful resource these days.
Keep Your Child's Education On Track When They're Home Sick #7: Use a Laptop
Children who are sick for a long length of time may benefit by using a laptop. A lot of school work can be done online these days and if your child has a writing assignment, it may be easier for them to type it out then to write it all by hand.
Keep Your Child's Education On Track When They're Home Sick #8: Ask for Help if You Need It
If your child has a tough assignment and you can't contact their teacher, ask for help. It may turn out that a friend knows how to do the assignment you can't help your child with or that they know someone who can.
Keep Your Child's Education On Track When They're Home Sick #9: Make Sure They're Comfortable
Does your child have a designated homework place when they're not sick (like a desk or dining room table)? If so, don't insist that they do their school work in that area if they're sick. Let them do it on a tray in bed, laying on the couch, etc. If they are in a hospital bed, make sure that the beside table will fit over their bed.
Keep Your Child's Education On Track When They're Home Sick #10: Printouts
The internet is full of many resources, including school style printouts for different school ages. If your child is a 4th grader, do a search for printouts on some of the kind of work she's doing in class (like Math). The extra work could help your child be more on task when they return to school.
