Keep Clinton Hill Ad Free and Reduce Litter
Neighborhood: Clinton Hill
Brooklyn, NY 11205

Residents can get rid of those unwanted ads that come in plastic hangers by posting a sign on their property. Many new residents are unaware of a 2008 state "Lawn Litter" law that prohibits advertisers from leaving unsolicited advertisement on your doorstep.

According to the Department of Sanitation, the sign must be posted in a visible area and be at least five inches tall, seven inches wide and read, "Do Not Place Unsolicited Advertising Materials On This Property" in a one inch sized font.

Advertisers that ignore your sign can be fined up to $250 for each violation. Some local and small merchants are allowed to leave the occasional menu without being penalized.

According to Green Fort Greene and Clinton Hill, waterproof signs can be picked up from the Society for Clinton Hill or at Marcus Attorneys at 13 Greene Avenue.
