When you are using article marketing as your means of driving traffic, you should consider mastering your keyword research. Keyword research is important as it concerns not only the effectiveness of your article, but also your ability to drive traffic from the search engines.

Being able to choose the right keywords and get good search engine placement for them is a skill, which can make you money for years and years to come. Once you've mastered this you should have no problem finding keywords that will do just that. So let's cover how to do good, effective keyword research.

When you choose keywords that have a lot of competition you're going to have a very hard time breaking into the first two pages of any major search engine. You want your keywords to have good traffic levels, but at the same time you do not want there to be too much competition for them. Typically the kinds of keywords you want are long tail, meaning you want them to be more than two words. Essentially, what you are looking to do it take a big peice of a smaller pie, instead of a sliver of the big pie, because overall the latter will be much easier to maintain, and will in the end out produce the more competitive words.

When you do this you should be able to easily rank for your specific keyword. If you choose the right long tail keywords for your article marketing purposes, then you can eventually have an army of articles ranking well in the search engines driving hordes of traffic to your website.

You also want to check the strength of competition of a particular keyword.

If you see there are a lot of high authority sites on the front page it may be hard to rank for this keyword. But if you see there are a lot of smaller sites and sub pages ranking on the front page, then you should have an excellent chance of ranking for this particular article. Even better are your chances if you see other articles ranking on the first page.

Of course this will not be as easy as putting up an article on an article directory. You'll need to do extensive back linking in order to keep your article high in the search engines. But once you have mastered this basic article marketing strategy, you'll be able to drive traffic to your website effortlessly.
