A number of criminals have committed crimes because they felt more comfortable being taken care of in a prison than for them to try and make it on their own in normal society. However, this should not be a reward for murder. We have to take into account the thought processes of criminals. While in many situations crimes are committed during moments of passion, other times crimes are thoroughly premeditated. Some criminals weigh the advantages and disadvantages of their actions. If the negatives of perpetrating a crime far away the advantages then this will be at least some pressure against bad behavior.
It is not fair to use red herrings as a basis for one's case against the death penalty. It is likely that a few people were wrongly convicted and sentenced to death. This is very unfortunate. However, these circumstances do not overshadow the enormous mountain of evidence against those who were rightly convicted of manslaughter. All points of information must be taken into consideration.
The US should not follow the European countries in its handling of the criminal justice system. Socialism is a failure because it goes against human nature as does a moratorium on the death penalty. Fear is an aspect of human nature. If a criminal has a fear of being executed by the state for committing manslaughter they may think twice about killing someone. This may not be true in all cases, but the fear deterrent should remain in place.
Governments should not be ambiguous in their response to the ultimate crimes. A fair trial by jury is to be expected. However, the penalties that come with being convicted should be clearly present. When outcomes are clear people pay attention to them. When consequences are known people take them into consideration.
Society should not spend its resources coddling murderers. Being soft on crime has no evidence of reducing crime. Quite the opposite is true. If you take away the consequences you only encourage more sadistic behavior.

Punish one for ones crime is justice. If someone murdered your family, how would you feel? What if they got away and you knew that they really truly did kill your family? Arent we putting an end to their wrongdoings whether its already been done or about to be done? Revenge would be going and killing some of thier family, its not revenge its the law. Can you really look someone in the eye after they have just murdered your family and say " your good deep down" ? Besides, would you rather we kill them or them kill you?

i dont know if we should keep the death penalty or not i think we need it but i takes 3 mill to execute a person and 15,000 a year for life in prison. so less money for keeping a person in prison. and i dont think a innocent person well get the death penalty because if you dont have a criminal record i dont think they can execute him/her. i do think if someone kills your family you would want them to die so they know what they did was wrong. but if the person is mentally retarded should they be sent to death but so far at least 35 people with mental retardation have been executed nationwide. you need to have an IQ of 70 or less is the generally accepted standard for retardation. some say it is wrong to execute someone but that person must have killed someone else so you dont think its right to kill a killer. if someone knew they would get killed if they did a crime i dont think they would do it... i think the death penalty should stay. i had to do this for school... =(
I thnk that death penalty should stay, cz we cant imagine a world without it it will a mess!!! people should suffer the same thing that they gave to others!! people understand!!
The fact that there is always a chance that the person you are executing could be innocent should be enough to stop any one from doing this. Also, haven't you ever hear of two wrongs don't make a right? Why should the government kill someone to show that killing someone else is wrong. In my oppinion that makes the government just as bad as that person.
you guys can suck a dick the death penalty is awesome
Also, if someone is screwed up enough to brutally murder and entire innocent family, I doubt the the prospect of getting killed if he is caught is going to stop him. People who "like" to kill (which is very rare, its usually just in the movies or C.S.I) are just crazy, as in mentally ill.
