Keep Your Garden Going in the Fall with a Basement Makeover

Mrs. Renee
One thing that many families really love about the summer months is gardening. So why not bring your gardening indoors, and make your basement into an indoor oasis. It may sound a little odd, but it can be a lot of fun, and also provide you with plenty of vegetables to keep feeding your family during the Fall, and Winter months. Below are a few ideas and suggestions on how you can get started.

LED Grow lights are a must

There are a variety of grow lights to choose from so you will need to choose which is right for your basement. It depends a lot on how you want to set up your basement. For example some put all of the plants on one table and then hang the lights. Or if you want to set up your basement more like an outdoor patio with seats and tables, you may want to choose a different type of light. Shop around to look at the different set ups.

Choose the right plants

There are some vegetable plants that grow really well indoors. For example herb plants tend to grow really well indoors. Even with the special lighting some tend to grow a lot better like tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce. Decide which types of vegetables you want to continue growing during the Fall months, and get these going indoors.

Provide seating

You don't just want your indoor garden to be about the plants. You still want to be able to use your basement for other things. Why not go to a few local yard sales or a thrift store and see if you can get a couch or some comfy chairs. You can set these up in your basement around the plants so that you can really enjoy the atmosphere.

Indoor carpeting

If you have children than the indoor carpeting is really a must for a basement. If you want to leave one part of your basement carpet free than just get an area rug to cover the section you want. A lot of kids like to get the indoor carpeting that resembles grass.

Regular lighting

If you have the LED lighting for the plants, you can turn them off when you are down there with company, and turn on the regular lights. Basements tend to be dark so you will want to make sure that you have plenty of additional lighting.
