Keep on Keeping on for the Lord

Shirley A Mandel
As a surviver of serious mental illness, I have a little word of advice for those who are hurting out there. No matter how much you hurt, or how many enemies you have, or how little money you have in the bank, just remember that the trees are still green and the sky is still blue and the clouds are still puffy and white.

So continue to pray for those enemies and give generouly to the work of the Lord and those even less forunate than yourselves here and in other parts of the world. Yes, it is a challenge to be disabled, or even down on your luck, in America but how much worse would it be to be sick in Russia or China? America is a virtual garden spot for the less fortunate compaired to those places, thanks to our two party system that we have here.

Yes you may have to live in an unsavory neighborhood for awhile right next door to the drug dealers and their customers, but buck up and go buy some flowers for the yard or some houseplants for your apartment. Be a good neighbor yourself so you'll get a good reference for a better place and, if possible, get a little pet for yourself if permited by the landlord, but remember to keep your place real clean like it's your own.

Then pray. Keep on keeping on for the Lord. And don't give up. Better days are always coming.

Thanks for sharing. I suspect there is a little mental illness in all of us, since there is no perfect one but God. Some are just to more of an extreme than others.

It was just by chance I came back to your site today and this piece was exactly what I needed to read. I am really exhausted with some much going on in my life; my father's surgery and worsening dementia, my daughter in a troubled marriage and pregnant with her first child, my son-in-law doesn't have a job and my own medical issues. Upon reading your piece I was reminded of who is in control and where I need to turn. Thanks for giving praise, you helped a fellow believer today.
