"Daddy!" echoes through the hall
and into my sleeping mind
I awake and stumble out of my room
"What's wrong?"
"I had a bad dream."
I grab my pillow and a blanket.
I stare at you as your eyes begin to close
You worried about the monsters that aren't there
Me thinking about the ones that are.
My fears less important as
I listen to you breathe
You open your eyes and smile
"Go to sleep", I say
And kiss your forehead
You hug your bear tight
"Keep me safe," I whisper.
And I kiss you again.
