Keep Your Sweet Tooth Under Control

Tips for You and Your Health

Zach Golt
Are you the person that tries to imagine a stalk of celery to be a rich, creamy, and delicious Snickers bar? Let's all face the facts: We all have one moment during the day and crave our favorite sweets. Ice-cream, cookies, chocolate, doughnuts, and candy are all sweet indulgences that make life reward-full from time to time. A sweet tooth can be defined as a strong appetite for sweet food with high caloric value. It is a person that is experiencing and certain urge, or craving for a sweet delicacy. We have all been enjoying sweets since the begging of time. We've just been able to take sugar to another level, heavenly to be exact. I am going to provide you with great substitutes for your sweet tooth cravings.

Fruity and Creamy Sweet Treats

When you are in the mood for a creamy, sweet, or fruity treat, try eating fruit yogurt that can treat your craving. If you want to stay healthy and make your own yogurt you can get a tub of plain yogurt from the store, cut up and add fresh fruits with a little bit of honey. The honey will add the sugary kick that you need. It will be healthy, good for your diet, and it will kick your craving out of the water! If you are not a yogurt person try putting a pudding cup in your lunch box. Also, if you divide sweets into bags, or get foods that are already portioned, you won't want to try and go for second serving (hint: you'll feel guilty).

Chocolate Lovers

For many of us, sweet tooth derives from the chocolate. Although many of us avoid the heartburn, calories, and our diets, we can reduce the calorie intake of our sweet tooth binge by cutting up fruit. Cutting up fruit sounds a little silly to cure the craving for chocolate, but it will work. Cut up fruit that you have lying around the house, and get some chocolate syrup to dip it in. Instead of having a candy bar, chocolate cheese cake, or a chocolate covered pretzels, you might be better off taking your cut up fruit, and lightly dipping it in chocolate syrup.

Portions kill us. A lot of us like to over eat, don't know what proportions are right, or don't know how to stray away from the cravings. Try granola, yogurt, and honey to help curve your sweet tooth. If you use one scoop of vanilla ice-cream with some berries or crushed nuts and honey, you might find a new dessert!
